In partnership with CompassionateUSA, the Alamo Colleges District celebrated its 5th Annual National Day of Collective Healing on January 29, 2026.

This inspiring gathering has become a sanctuary for compassion, bringing together voices that awaken reflection, and shared humanity. Past speakers include Mee Moua (2022), Dr. Cornel West (2023), Nikki Giovanni (2024), and Leslie Odom Jr. (2025).

This year, 23rd U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo and 24th U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limón brought the evening to life, weaving stories of resilience, hope, and compassion that reminded over 500 attendees that true compassion begins with listening and presence.

The night was further illuminated by Palo Alto College Ballet Folklórico, Destiny Hernández, and Lachuné Boyd, whose movement, storytelling, and artistry created a collective celebration of shared humanity.

We can’t wait for the 6th Annual National Day of Collective Healing in 2027, where we’ll continue to gather in gratitude, deepen compassion, and build a more connected community, . ❤️

During this season of reflection, gratitude has a unique power to bring people closer together. When individuals pause to appreciate shared moments, supportive communities, and the simple act of being together, they help create a culture of empathy and connection.

Gratitude encourages people to see one another with greater compassion, inspiring kindness and understanding in everyday interactions. In a time when many communities seek healing and unity, these small expressions of appreciation can spark meaningful change.

This season invites everyone to slow down, notice the good around them, and uplift one another through intentional acts of gratefulness. ❤️

to late September, CompassionateUSA had the privilege of attending the Seventeenth Encuentro Mundial de Valores, where the Monterrey government led by Adrián de la Garza Santos received the "Certification for Compassion." This recognition celebrated Monterrey’s dedication to compassion and community-centered policies that truly put people first. Experiencing this moment reminded us that compassion is more than a value—it’s a powerful force for change. Across the U.S., efforts like CompassionateUSA, championed by former San Antonio Mayor, Ron Nirenberg and in partnership with other cities across the world, are showing how compassion can guide public service and civic engagement.

As we enter into election day, let’s bring that same spirit to the ballot box. Voting compassionately means choosing leaders and policies that reflect empathy, fairness, and a genuine care for one another.

Together, we can shape communities that heal, grow, and thrive because compassion connects us all.

“You yourself as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve love and affection.” — Mahatma Gandhi

This week’s quote is a gentle but powerful reminder that self-compassion is not an afterthought, but a necessity. In a world filled with tragedy and uncertainty, it is compassion that helps us stay grounded. It lifts our spirits and eases suffering both our own and that of others.

When we treat ourselves with love and kindness, we nurture our own well-being and inner strength. This self-compassion allows us to be more patient and understanding not only with ourselves but with those around us. It opens the door to deeper connections, greater resilience, and a more compassionate world.

Self-compassion isn't selfish, It's essential. It's the starting point for a more compassionate world. 💛

What is one small way you have given yourself love and compassion this week?

International Day of Peace 2025 is this Sunday, September 21st, 2025! 🕊️🌍

Peace begins with us and with compassion. As the world honors Peace Day, we’re reminded that true peace isn’t just the absence of conflict, but the presence of compassion.

In response to a local tragedy, The Alamo Community Colleges District, the San Antonio PeaceCENTER and the City of San Antonio joined together to launch CompassionateUSA. Today, hundreds of communities are working together to build a more compassionate future.

Together, we can create stronger, more united communities one act of compassion at a time.

“Life is beautiful in all its colors, even the darker ones, they’re here for a reason.” — Chris Martin

Imagine a world where systems like families, friendships, workplaces, schools, and communities are deeply rooted in compassion, embracing every experience as part of life’s full spectrum of colors. 🎆

Just as this week's quote reminds us that even the darker moments have meaning. Compassion allows these systems to hold space for struggles and imperfections without judgment. In such a world, challenges are not just obstacles but essential parts of a shared human journey, strengthening connections and fostering growth.

Compassion becomes the thread that weaves everything together, making life’s complex, sometimes painful, colors beautiful and purposeful within the larger tapestry.

“Deal with yourself as an individual, worthy of respect and make everyone else deal with you the same way.” — Nikki Giovanni

This powerful quote by Nikki Giovanni, teaches us that when you recognize your own value, it becomes natural to honor the dignity in those around you. Compassion isn’t weakness; it’s a powerful acknowledgment that everyone, including yourself, is deserving of understanding, patience, and respect. By holding yourself to this standard, you invite others to treat you and each other the same respectful way.

How would our relationships and communities change if we treated ourselves with equal measures of respect and compassion?
