What does becoming a service dog look like??

Many people with disabilities use a service animal in order to fully participate in everyday life.

Dogs can be trained to perform many important tasks to assist people with disabilities.

Here are a few… but there are of course MANY MANY MANY MORE!

*providing stability for a person who has difficulty walking
*picking up items for a person who uses a wheelchair
*preventing a child with autism from wandering away
*alerting a person who has hearing loss when someone is approaching from behind

This dog is working on “take it” and “bring it” to assist with his owners mobility issues.

This is his SECOND day learning this new task.

The FIRST day- he did not want ANYTHING in his mouth. NADA.

Through persistent positive reinforcement and patience, this dog will be bringing many needed items to his person in no time!

One of the biggest questions we get it “how much does it cost?”

Because, let’s be honest. The money part is important.

The more work YOU are willing to do- the less you will need a trainer.

The more funds we can raise- the more free help we can give!!

Depending on what part of the world you are in, professional dog trainers can start around $150/hour up to $250/hour for service dog training.

This can run into thousands of dollars and will, once again, depend greatly on the dog you are training for service and what he/she needs to be able to perform.

THIS boy and THIS dog were a perfect match.

With mom’s patience in looking for and waiting for the temperament of dog needed for B’s sometimes explosive personality, we were able to find and pair these two together!

B is more confident when Indie goes with him places. He’s comforted knowing that she is by his side. Even when he gets upset and his behaviors deter other people and even friends, Indie is there to interrupt his hurtful behaviors.

B is autistic and when the world is overwhelming-as it often is- his negative coping skills and self harm during the difficult times, are interrupted by Indie’s nose, licking, or pawing.

Of course B is working on replacing the negative coping skills with positive ones, but it is a slow process, no doubt made easier by just having Indie by his side.

I can’t wait to see where these two GO!!

Hello all. I just want to thank everyone for coming to the fundraiser and supporting the foundation and our handler’s. The 50-50 will be announced tomorrow 11/18 via live at 6 PM! I know we are a little late!!
