The World Affairs Council of San Antonio is a not-for-profit, non-partisan, citizen’s educational forum focusing on issues related to foreign policy that have a direct effect on our lives. It is entirely local in governing and support, and services all individuals and organizations interested in its goals. We are a

member of the World Affairs Councils of America, which is composed of almost 100 councils in over 40 states and the District of Columbia. The national network of councils shares a commitment to broad-based, non-partisan education and the principle of open membership. Our goal is to inform and educate our community, starting with youth, about the importance of international affairs, culture, politics, language and government. We achieve our goal by organizing in-person, digital and social media programming.

On July 29, a day after a devastating earthquake struck Kumamoto Prefecture, long lines of customers formed at the "Ginza Kumamoto Kan" specialty store in Tokyo. Shoppers visited the official prefectural shop to purchase local goods as a way to financially support the disaster-hit region. Due to the overwhelming number of visitors, store staff had to implement unusual entry restrictions by the afternoon to prevent severe overcrowding inside the facility.

A donation box was also set up within the store, where many customers contributed additional funds after completing their purchases. While a store representative expressed deep gratitude for the public's support, they noted that disrupted supply chains from Kumamoto mean some inventory may run out by the weekend.
