This Thanksgiving, we remember: Gratitude isn’t born from ease—it’s forged through endurance.

Four centuries ago, weary settlers gave thanks not for abundance, but for Providence. Around that rough-hewn table, men like William Brewster passed down faith, courage, and conviction to the next generation.

Today, around campfires, dinner tables, and church pews, something quiet—but powerful—is stirring again. A quiet revival is rising. Men are returning to their roles as mentors, fathers, and spiritual leaders.

This Thanksgiving, gather at the table. Open the Word. Give thanks. And remember the legacy we're called to carry forward.

Because the table still matters. And the next generation is watching.

“He just wants attention.” We say it like it’s a bad thing. But If a boy was starving, we wouldn’t say, “He just wants food.” We’d feed him.

What’s so wrong with a boy craving attention?

God wired boys to lead. That desire to be seen, to be part of the action, to do something that matters—it’s not a bug in the system. It’s the beginning of a mission. That so-called “rambunctious” nature? It’s the same drive that leads men to storm beaches in wartime, scale cliffs to rescue the stranded, or build something where nothing once stood.

In fact, when we stifle that drive, we risk losing the very spirit God put in them to make them strong, bold, and ready to serve.

Boys do not believe there is a tree that should not be climbed. And maybe they’re right. That courage, that curiosity, that physicality—it’s not a phase. It’s a calling.

So let’s stop glaring at boys who can’t sit still.
Let’s start gazing with awe at what God might be building in them.

Let’s see that wild, wonderful spark for what it really is—a glimpse of the man he’s meant to become.

There was a time when boyhood was an untamed, unhurried thing. When creek beds turned into racetracks for hand-carved boats, the tops of hay bales became mountain peaks to be conquered, and backyard disputes ended in a wrestling match and a handshake.

Boys spent whole afternoons building, testing, and sometimes spectacularly failing—their tree swings crashing down, their handmade bows snapping in half, their hastily dug tunnels caving in around them. It was a time to experiment, play, fail, and dust themselves off and try again.

Beneath the scraped elbows, scuffed shoes, and sunburned faces, something deeper was happening. Amidst the boyish thrill of adventure, manliness was taking root.

Today, too many boys are boxed in—told to sit still, quiet down, behave.

Trail Life is where boyhood is restored.

Here, boys are free to explore, build, compete, fail, and grow—guided by godly mentors and surrounded by a band of brothers.
