Part 2 is a little more sentimental.
A few of you, especially those in Grape Creek, may have known Eddie Creel who passed away 2 years ago. While the first several decades of his life may have been contentious, he tried to have his heart in the right place for the latter part.
He didn't have much, but what he did have, he left to be divided among the missionaries of our church.
Before that final day, and even before we had our 501c3, he would occasionally hand me a donation and asked that it be used for foster kids. The total was less than $100, but it was always a $20 bill, a couple of ones, and loose change. I've used a little here and there throughout the last few years, and I used $24 of that to help buy Chris's bike and rice cooker. As you can see, I have one more $20 and the change.
Every cent will go directly to a foster youth, not our general fund, not to the building, not to me, not to a board member or another ministry... because even before it was legally binding, it was an agreement that I made with him.
All that to say, I do not make anything from New Journey, and I have no plans to do so. There were times when personal bills were due and that tin was sitting there and a "loan" would have been easy. But that would break my word.
Likewise, everyone else involved with New Journey San Angelo will help these youth because they want to, not because they're paid to. Because they've been called to this ministry. Because they want to follow James 1:27 and related verses. Because they see the hurting and desire to come alongside us and help them heal.
Thank you to those who have given over the last thirteen years. I do not take this ministry, or this calling, lightly. I know some expect to see more results and I hope one day (very) soon those will begin to fruit. Unfortunately, I am not Christian Bale and can't self-finance this much needed project. I need each of you and many more.
