🐈 WHO IS MOTHERLODE FERAL CAT ALLIANCE?
As our page grows, we’re getting more messages about: • Found kittens
• Pregnant moms
• Cat removal
• Rehoming
• Emergency situations
• Requests outside our service area
So here’s a quick explanation of what we DO and what we DO NOT do.
✅ WHAT WE DO:
• Educate on TNR (Trap • Neuter • Return)
• Work alongside caregivers to get outdoor cat populations under control
• Teach safe trapping practices
• Connect people with low-cost spay/neuter resources
• Advocate for prevention and long-term solutions
A huge part of what we do is EDUCATION.
We help people learn how to trap, navigate TNR, and stop the cycle of reproduction at the source.
❌ WHAT WE DO NOT DO:
• Relocate cats
• Remove cats from properties
• Intake cats
• Operate as animal control
• Serve as a 24/7 emergency hotline
• Offer veterinary advice
We are a TNR-focused nonprofit.
That means our mission is prevention through spay/neuter, education, and community involvement.
We understand people reach out because they care, and we truly wish we could take on every situation sent to us.
But there are far more cats in need than any one group can personally fix, remove, or rescue.
This is why our focus will always be:
𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 • 𝗘𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 • 𝗦𝗣𝗔𝗬/𝗡𝗘𝗨𝗧𝗘𝗥

🎉 Big Wins for Our Feral Cats! 🎉
In May alone, we fixed 66 cats! That brings us to 465 this year and a total of 3,398 since we started.
Thanks to your support and our dedicated volunteers, we’ve prevented hundreds of kittens from being born into tough situations. Every spay and neuter makes a huge difference in our Motherlode communities!
Share this to spread the word and help us keep up the momentum. Together we’re changing lives one cat at a time. 🐾❤️

🌸 MFCA URGENT UPDATE – KITTEN SEASON IS OVERWHELMING US 🌸
Our amazing fosters and dedicated volunteers are completely maxed out right now.
It’s peak kitten season and we have zero room for more kittens. Today alone we received over 20 messages about kittens in need, and our phones are ringing off the hooks. 💔
Important clarification: The cats and kittens currently in our custody are from the specific colonies we are actively working on in Calaveras County. We are not able to take in random kittens from people who suddenly “find” them or claim they’ve never seen a cat before.
We serve Calaveras County only. Please stop tagging us in Sonora and other out-of-area posts — we simply cannot help outside our area.

Good news for potential fosters: If you’re able to step up and foster, we will set you up and fully support you with supplies, food, litter, and guidance every step of the way! Plus we will assist with spay/neuter.

We are doing everything we can for the colonies we’re managing, but we cannot take any additional intakes at this time.
Please help us by:
• Spaying/neutering your cats and any neighborhood ferals (we have TNR reimbursement options — message us for details)
• Considering fostering if you have the space and experience
• Sharing this post far and wide
• Donate!! The more money we have for spay/neuter the less kittens will in desperate need of fosters.
Every spay/neuter prevents more litters and helps us stay sustainable during this overwhelming time.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support of the Motherlode Feral Cat Alliance. Together we can make a difference for these little ones. 🙏🐱

🐱 Motherlode Feral Cat Alliance Update 🐱
We currently have 45 kittens in our care — and our foster homes are bursting at the seams! ❤️
🎉 Good news:
• 5 kittens are ready for adoption right now!
• We’ve already celebrated 14 adoptions this season!
These little ones are spayed/neutered and rabies vaccinated (if they were old enough)— ready to find their forever homes.
Meet a few of our adorable babies available now (swipe through the photos!):
• The sweet white kitten with the striking blue eye → Female
• The playful one doing the head twerk back → Female(and three more cuties in the carousel!)
If you’re ready to open your heart and home to a kitten (or two!), please message us or comment below. We have an adoption application and can help with the process.
Every adoption frees up space so we can continue our TNR work and help more cats in Calaveras County. Thank you for your support — whether through adoptions, donations, or sharing this post!

Most trappers have experienced this one…and we cannot reiterate enough how frustrating (and dangerous) this can be. 😅

You pull up to a house, ready to trap…
And they proudly say: “𝙊𝙝 𝙬𝙚 𝙖𝙡𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙮 𝙜𝙤𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪!”

And then you see it 🥴.
A feral cat…
In a dog crate.
Or a carrier.

Now instead of trapping safely…
You’re standing there trying to transfer a terrified, unsocial cat who does not know you, does not trust you, and is in full survival mode into a trap.

For the safety of the cat AND the safety of the handler…𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙚𝙭𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙡𝙮 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙖𝙫𝙤𝙞𝙙.

Because here’s the reality:
🚫Clinics do NOT accept feral cats in dog crates or carriers. And there’s a reason for that.

❗️Feral cats can injure themselves trying to escape
❗️They can injure YOU during transfer
❗️There is no safe way to sedate or handle them in those setups
❗️It creates unnecessary stress and risk for everyone involved

Traps are designed for this.
They protect the cat.
They protect the handler.
And they allow clinics to do their job safely and efficiently.

We know people mean well.
We know they’re trying to help.

But this is one of those moments where helping actually makes the process harder and more dangerous.

If you’re working with a trapper:
👉 Please don’t try to “catch” the cat
👉 Let the trapper handle the setup
👉 Follow the plan given

We promise… there’s a method to the madness. 🤪🐾

🐱 Mondays? More Like Spay-Day Fundays at MFCA for 26 YES 26 Calaveras County FERALS 😂🐾
Happy Monday, Motherlode crew! 💕 While the rest of the world is hitting snooze and grumbling about the workweek, our van is out here living its best life — playing Uber for feral cats who definitely did NOT sign up for this field trip!
Photo 1: Check out our ride this morning — packed to the meow with covered carriers. These little rebels from our local colonies were probably plotting their escape the whole way, yowling protest songs about “not today, humans!”
Photo 2: And now? The van is gloriously EMPTY! 🎉 All those cats got their spa day (aka spay/neuter surgery), are chilling in recovery like VIPs with room service, and will head back to their colonies fixed, fabulous, and officially out of the kitten-making business.
Talk about a productive Monday! No more surprise litters, fewer midnight concerts, and way less drama at the food bowl. TNR magic in action — we turned a van full of “fur-midable” fighters into a peaceful, population-controlled crew.
Shoutout to our rockstar trappers, transporters, vets, and recovery heroes who make these chaotic cat caravans possible. You guys are the real Monday MVPs!
Want to keep our van rolling (and the laughs coming)?
• Donate so we can do this more often: link in comments.
• Volunteer for trapping, transport, or fostering (we promise the cats are funnier in person)
• Spot a colony? Report it!
• Share this post and tag a fellow cat lover who needs a Monday pick-me-up!

🐱 Meet Precious: The Striking Black Feral Mouser (and Master Vole Hunter)! 🐾
Hey Motherlode cat crew! 💕 Today we’re shining the spotlight on Precious, one seriously impressive feral gentleman from our colonies. Don’t let the sweet name fool you — this sleek, striking black cat is a certified hunting legend.
With his ninja-like skills, Precious is out there taking down mice like a pro and showing voles who’s boss in the Motherlode fields. He’s the kind of cat who keeps the rodent population in check better than any trap ever could! 🐭🚫 While life on the streets is tough, his superior mousing talents make him a true colony asset.
Thanks to our MFCA TNR efforts, Precious has been trapped, neutered, ear-tipped, and returned healthier and happier — still free to do what he does best, but without adding to the kitten boom. No more surprise litters from this master hunter!
We love sharing stories of these amazing feral cats who are out there working hard in their own way. TNR lets them thrive while stabilizing colonies and helping our whole community.
How you can support rockstars like Precious:
• Donate to fund more TNR surgeries and care: link in comments.
• Report feral colonies or offer to help trap
• Volunteer or foster (we’ll find you your own little hunter someday!)

📣 A HUGE THANK YOU from Motherlode Feral Cat Alliance! 🐱❤️
We are overflowing with gratitude for all of our amazing followers who have generously donated cat food over the past few weeks! 🙌 Your kindness is making a real difference in the lives of the feral and stray cats we serve across Calaveras County.
Because of your donations, we’re able to keep our TNR colonies fed, support our foster families, and help hungry kitties like the ones in the Turtle colony, Orange Momma’s crew, and so many others. Every bag helps us stretch our resources further so we can focus on spay/neuter, medical care, and finding homes for the adoptables.
Thank you for caring about our furry neighbors and standing with us in this mission! Your support means full bellies, healthier cats, and continued progress toward ending the cycle of overpopulation.
If you’d like to donate food (or anything else our cats need), drop us a message or check our Amazon wishlist. Every little bit helps!
Together, we’re making the Motherlode a better place for cats. 💕

🐱 Foster Fail Success: Meet Dennis from the Rocket Gas Station Colony! 🐾
Hey Motherlode family! 💕 We’re thrilled to share a heartwarming update from the Rocket Gas Station colony in Copperopolis.
Dennis was living the tough feral life near the busy gas station — dodging traffic, competing for scraps, and facing all the challenges of colony life. Our MFCA trappers safely brought him in as part of our ongoing TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) efforts.
But Dennis had other plans! ❤️ This sweet boy stole the heart of his caregiver during the fostering process and has officially become a foster fail — now living his best life in a loving forever home. No more street struggles for Dennis!
Stories like this remind us why we do what we do. Every trapped cat gets a chance — some return healthier to their colonies, and some, like Dennis, find their perfect indoor match. TNR still saves lives by stabilizing colonies and preventing more kittens from being born into hardship.
Want to help more cats like Dennis?
• Donate to support trapping, spay/neuter surgeries, and fostering: link in comments.
• Volunteer as a trapper, transporter, or foster
• Report feral colonies in Calaveras County
• Share this post!
Thank you to our amazing trappers, caregivers, and supporters who make these happy endings possible. One cat at a time, we’re making a difference in the Motherlode!

🆘 URGENT: Our Feral Cats & Fosters Need Your Help with Food! 🐱
Hi friends and supporters! As the weather warms up, our feral cat colonies and foster kittens are eating more than ever. We’re working hard with TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) and caring for vulnerable cats in Calaveras County, but our supplies are running low.
Every bag of dry food and can of wet food makes a huge difference in keeping these cats healthy and reducing overpopulation in our community.
Motherlode Feral Cat Alliance is a 100% all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit — no paid staff, just dedicated folks who love cats and give their time freely to make a real impact.
If you can help, we’d be so grateful if you’d grab something from our wishlists:

Even a single bag helps feed a colony for days! Every donation goes straight to the cats — thank you from the bottom of our hearts (and their rumbling tummies) ❤️
Share this post if you can’t donate right now — it helps us reach more kind people!
