Songea's Kids

USA all-volunteer nonprofit organization supporting basic needs and education of orphans and vulnerable children in under-served southern Tanzania, East Africa

Songea’s Kids currently supports 60 orphan children in Mshangano Village by providing safe shelter, food, clothing, education and healthcare. Education is the key to transforming their lives, and our kids range from pre-school age through vocational training and university. When kids graduate from our program, they have the knowledge, skills and abilities to support themselves and their future fam

ilies. We work with the Songea NGO Jirani Mwema, whose staff oversees care for the children we support. We also collaborate with the NGO Hope Village Organization to build Hope Village, a residential orphan haven planned to house 160 very vulnerable children and to provide a health clinic, pre-primary school, vocational training schools and entrepreneurship opportunities for the orphans and surrounding villagers. USA partners are Pacific Groundwater Group and Sundberg Architecture Initiatives.

One special tradition in Tanzania is giving. We brought games, puzzles, books and soccer balls for the kids. And my, what gifts we received: bunches of bananas, chickens, avocados and even beautiful hand stitched works from the HVO tailoring students. We are so thankful for the generosity of the villagers and students.

We spent the last two days at Hope Village visiting the kids, the vocational training classes, the health care center, and the farm. It is amazing to see what can happen when caring people come together to make a dream turn into a reality.

What a joy it is to be here in Tanzania, working with our local partners and visiting children. Today we visited Sapienta school where 16 of our sponsored children are studying. They aim to be the next generation of doctors, scientists, pilots, artists and more, eager to make an impact in their communities and their country. Thanks to the generosity of their sponsors for helping them to achieve their potential.

Today, we especially honor the mothers in Tanzania who work tirelessly to provide for their children and dream of a brighter future for their families despite the challenges of poverty. We also celebrate the amazing women — and families — who sponsor children through Songea’s Kids. Your compassion and generosity help provide food, education, healthcare, and hope to children who might otherwise go without. Through your support, you are helping children discover the possibilities for their future. Motherhood is not only about giving birth — it is also about nurturing, encouraging, sacrificing, and believing in a child’s potential.
