Stone House Museum Tours this weekend-
The Rebecca B. Hadden Stone House Museum will be open for tours during Canal Days on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Be sure to visit the rear yard to see the antique tool shed.
A variety of outdoor plants will be available for sale beginning Saturday. Some of the plants are:
Climbing Wisteria vines
Hosta’s
Black Eyed Susan
Deep Red Dahlias
Scotch Pine seedlings
Pink Columbine
Sedum
Thornless Blackberries
Daffodils Bulbs

Additional plants will be donated for the sale.

The Local Weekend: A Saltsburg Newspaper-
Do you remember The Local Weekend, a free 4-page, Saltsburg newspaper published by Abraham Kline? This publication predates The Saltsburg News, that was available at Shop N’ Save in Saltsburg.
With permission from Abraham Kline, we will begin sharing some of the copies we have at the Stone House Museum. The first featured copy is dated June 4, 2011.
Although it was only 15 years ago, revisiting these pages brings back memories of news and events from that time.

Don’t miss the Saltsburg Memorial Day Service today. The procession will march to the St Matthew Catholic Church parking lot next to the cemetery by 8:30 am and then proceed up to center of the Edgewood Cemetery shortly before 9:00 am. Come early so you don’t miss the service as we remember those who served our country.

The 44th Historic Canal Days Celebration is in two weeks. Come to Saltsburg to enjoy all the sights, sounds and food that will be here. There is something to do for the whole family. Check out this itinerary for this three-day event.

History of 219 Point Street, Saltsburg, PA
This building at 219 Point Street has a long and varied history in the community.
From 1939 until about 1968, it was home to Sloan’s 5 and 10 Cent Store, owned and operated by Robert S. Sloan of Saltsburg until his retirement. After that, the building housed several other businesses over the years, including a pizza shop, Patchwork At Heart by Pat Rhea, and later the Saltsburg Day Care Center in the early 2000s.
The building also served as a residence. The beloved Ellen Fink lived in an apartment there during the 1990s and remained there until her passing in 2004.
If you have memories of Sloan’s 5 and 10 Cent Store or any of the other businesses that operated in the building, we would love to hear them. The building still retains its large storefront window and entrance, and it could easily be converted back into a business space once again.

We have a sturdy metal at the Stone House Museum that needs a new home if anyone could use it. As you can see in the pictures, there are four drawers. No scratches and the top is in perfect shape. If you can use it, come and get it, we put it outside behind the museum at 105 Point Street, Saltsburg PA. First come, first serve. If you want to make a donation in the front door, that would be great but not necessary. Bring a truck and second person to load it up. Thank you in advance! As of Tuesday May 19, at 1:30 pm, the desk is still available.
