UPDATE ON 'TY' (a/k/a TEBOW): my heart is beyond heavy as I try to put this all into words...to announce what I was hoping, by some miracle, could be avoided.
I have known since Cornell's evaluation of Tebow and consultation last year that the time would come, and so it is upon us. Tebow has grown to be a good sized, beautiful Friesan. As Cornell predicted, his growth and stature would ultimately worsen his condition (fully dislocated pelvic) causing continued stress to his oppositive leg (some may recall that the killpen listed him as having DSLD, which was not the case at all). What makes this all the more difficult is that Tebow is so young and innocent (he would be just two years old this May). He's very playful, extraordinarily curious, highly intelligent and simply loves Life. After much thought, consult with specialists and people close to the situation...and prayer, I know in my heart that letting him go before his condition becomes unbearable or at some point causing catastrophic harm to himself is the kindest decision for him.
This past year at Hattie Hills, Tebow was given the gift of life after ending up in a killpen when he was cruelly discarded due to an incident that left him with a floating femur. He has been living a horse's life with no pressure, no 'asks', no expectations...just good food and hay, playtime, and lots of attention and adoration from all who have passed through to visit this last year.
We will be saying good-bye to Tebow this Friday morning. This is my first experience with euthanizing a horse and unfortunately it happens to be a baby, who is having a grand time out there in spite of his condition.
Tebow will be cremated and his ashes will be scattered where his spirit will live on here in front of my barn - where he ran and played and quickly learned to use his savvy escape artist abilities!
I will never, ever forget this beautifully innocent, smart, sentient Friesan Prince.
If you wish to contribute towards expenses for Tebow's transition over the Rainbow Bridge, donations to Hattie Hills Horse Rescue are tax deductible. The total cost of euthanizing and cremation is approximately $2,850. Donations can be made as follows:
