THIS SATURDAY! Join us this Saturday, May 30th, for another event in our 2026 Speaker Series! Engage with Christopher Cokinos at the Entrada Institute as he shares insight from his book "Still as Bright."

As humanity begins its return to the Moon, it's time to look at the Moon again—and not just as it rises over town and mountains. Humanity's relationship to what was once a mysterious light in the sky reveals so much about us. The Moon is more than a rock. It's an archive of stories, hopes, fears and longing. Ranging from pre-history to the current Artemis program, Chris will share excerpts from his book, talk about everything from folklore to art, and show vivid illustrations. He'll share his personal journey too, one in which the Moon lit both childhood and a father's death. Hopefully, they'll even be time to look at the Moon through his telescope.

This speaker series highlights authors from our 2025 Utah Book Awards. Plan to join us!

TONIGHT is the night! Come join us from 6:30pm - 9:30pm at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center for this watch party!

Join Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson and the Women's History Initiative for a live watch party of the award-winning Broadway Musical Suffs! The musical celebrates the fight for women’s voting rights, highlighting the tensions in the movement and the strategies of a young generation of suffragists who pushed the 19th Amendment across the finish line.

Register for your free ticket here: https://secure.qgiv.com/for/womenshistoryinitiative/event/suffswatchparty/

We'll gather at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center to watch the musical as it premieres on PBS' Great Performances. Utah played a pioneering role in the suffrage movement, and displays and activities at the screening will highlight the Beehive State’s important role in the story.

Come early for light refreshments, interactive elements, and tours of Voices and Votes: Democracy in America, a Smithsonian exhibition on view at the UCCC through May 30.

Refreshments and activities begin at 6 pm, with the screening starting at 7 pm. The show's run-time is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, with a 15-minute intermission.

The Women's History Initiative is a program of the Utah Historical Society. Please email [email protected] with any questions.
