Valvoline and Blood Cancer United are Driving for a Dream with a special livery on William Byron’s No. 24 for the upcoming race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Designed by Palmer, a 12-year-old blood cancer hero and artist, the colorful beach themed livery represents joy, strength, and resilience.

Take a look at the behind-the-scenes design process of how Emily Butler Lue and Harris Lue of LUE Creative brought Palmer’s vision to life.

"Over 65 years of life, I’ve walked through many difficult seasons, and what I know for certain is this: in every single one, God has been with me, and He has seen me through. But when I got married in February 2023, life felt full again, full of joy, full of plans, full of promise. At my niece’s wedding, while line dancing, I felt a sudden 'pop' in my rib. I never imagined that moment would lead to a diagnosis of multiple myeloma (MM), just three months after marrying my sweet husband, Ray.

I had been enjoying retirement after working since I was 14. I survived shingles in 2020 and an emergency appendectomy that same year. I had been savoring time with my five beautiful grandchildren. Then came 2023, a year I expected to spend traveling and building new memories with the love of my life. Instead, pain, muscle spasms, compression fractures, and rib fractures brought everything to a halt.

Looking back, I realized I had been tired and hurting for a long time but had pushed through it, as I always do. My pain tolerance is high, but this was beyond anything I’d ever known. I thought nothing could hurt worse than labor... then shingles came. And then cancer said, ‘Let me show you what pain really is.’

A stem cell transplant on December 29, 2023.

In June 2024, I got the call: I am MRD-negative and still MRD-negative over a year later. God is great! They may say myeloma is incurable, but I know this: nothing is too hard for God. If He did it before, He can do it again.”

For Dawn, "more" meant more time with her new husband, Ray. Just three months after they were married, she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Instead of the travel and adventures they had planned, they faced a blood cancer diagnosis together.

Today, Dawn is MRD-negative and continuing to make memories with her family, her grandchildren, and the life she fought so hard to keep living.

Meet Omar Abdel-Wahab, MD, of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

A recent National Academy of Medicine electee Abdel-Wahab’s project studies a mutation in the SRSF2 gene. It shows up in 25% of people with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), 50% of people with chronic myelomonocytic leukemia, and 25% of people with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) over age 65. Understanding what's happening at the molecular level with genes like SRSF2 could mean one new drug works across all of these types of blood cancer.

“Finding funding for this project at this early step can be challenging, but will be critical in bringing this treatment closer to patients," says Abdel-Wahab.

This project is part of the more than 250 academic research projects supported through Blood Cancer United's multi-year grants portfolio, all aimed at getting closer to better treatment options.

Meet our 2026 Utah Light The Night Adult Honored Hero, Emilee 🤍

Emilee Ariotti was diagnosed in the fall of 2018 with Stage 4 Diffuse Large B-Cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma—news that instantly changed her life.

What began as a tumor on her right o***y, discovered in late August and removed in October at 12 pounds was believed to be ovarian cancer, but was later identified as Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Many unexplained symptoms, including severe back pain and an enlarged, painful thyroid finally made sense. She was getting sicker by the day.

She underwent 8 rounds of intensive inpatient chemotherapy, along with additional spinal treatments, supported by a dedicated team of doctors. After five months of treatment and years of maintenance and perseverance, Emilee was declared cancer-free—an outcome she describes as nothing short of a miracle.

Today, Emilee is a devoted wife and mother who cherishes every moment with her husband and daughter. She loves being a hairstylist/lash artist, crafting, traveling, baking, watching her daughter perform on stage and play soccer. She also enjoys serving in her community and church. Her faith carried her through her journey, and she remains deeply grateful for the research, care, and support that made her recovery possible.

Emilee, thank you for sharing your story with us. We’re so grateful to have you as this year’s Adult Honored Hero and to walk alongside you at Light The Night.

If you would like to be part of Light the Night this year, we would love to have you join us on October 8 at Sugar House Park. 🤍 💛 ❤️

Introducing our Dare to Dream Honored Hero, Charlie. ❤️

Charlie was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at the age of 2. After 2.5 years of chemotherapy, he rang the bell and is now making friends in Kindergarten, playing on a community soccer team, and learning how to read. Throughout the difficult days of treatment, he often told his parents that Spider-Man was in his port fighting off the "cancer bad guys" and that's why he was so strong.

Charlie's experience reminds us why we dare to dream of a future with safer treatments, stronger support, and real hope for kids with blood cancer.

Your donation will go directly toward The Dare to Dream Project, helping transform treatment and care for kids and families. 🫶

✨ Meet our 2026 Utah Light The Night Pediatric Honored Hero: Krew ✨

“Hi, my name is Krew. I’m 11 years old, the son of Kevin & Becky, and younger brother to Brynlee, Ryker, & Tripp.

Just two weeks before my 10th birthday, I was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Our world changed overnight. Within days, I began chemotherapy, and now—20 long months later—I’ve entered the Maintenance phase of treatment and looking forward to the end of treatment.

I love football and all things WWE, but for now I have to cheer from the sidelines until my treatment is done. Even though I can’t play, I keep my head up and inspire others by staying positive through it all.

Most of all, I love my family, my friends, and Jesus, who all give me strength every single day.

Keep Fighting. Have Hope. Share Your Light.”

We are so honored to walk alongside Krew and his family this year. Krew, thank you for sharing your story and reminding all of us what strength and resilience truly look like.

Whether you’ve been personally impacted by cancer or simply want to support those who have, we’d love to have you join us at Light The Night on October 8 at Sugar House Park, link in bio to register—together, we bring light to the darkness of cancer.
