Did you know it takes 25 years for a head of lettuce to decompose in the landfill? If it’s inedible, that head of lettuce can be used to make compost instead.

Join us for Backyard Composting on Saturday, August 15 at WCG’s City Farm. We’ll cover the basics of building and maintaining a productive compost pile, from what to add and how much moisture it needs to troubleshooting common composting problems.

You’ll also compare different composting methods, get hands-on practice building a pile, and have a chance to share your own composting experiences.

A good day growing at our Farm Incubator Group Site with -

"We are an up and coming local women owned and operated farm. We are a small scale, under two acre, diversified veg production with an emphasis on peppers. Our farm programming also includes a desire to support our local community members with access to organic produce, education and workshops, and bringing folks to our farm to learn about the importance and wonder of growing healthy foods!"

Join us for a FREE Wednesday Walk-Through at the Emerson Elementary School Garden!

Come explore one of Salt Lake City School District's longest-running school garden programs and discover how school gardens create spaces for learning, connection, and creativity. Tour the garden, meet our Youth & School Gardens team and the Emerson Garden Committee, make herb playdough using fresh herbs from the garden, enjoy light refreshments, and explore everything from the pollinator garden to the fruit trees.
