Cru Update

6 weeks with 5 rounds of chemo left!! We can see the end of the chemo marathon coming. Tears filling my eyes as I type this.

The MAP chemo regime and his chest wall rib surgery has been more challenging than we could have ever imagined. Literally pushing every physical and mental limit for Cru to save his life.

As parents you want to fix things, you wish you could take their place. Our faith is what continues to hold us all.

Some positives lately: Amazing custom shoes gifted by our neighbor and close friends Zack & Jessica Moss - flowers with gift cards from Skyridge drill - a personal message from the Saints QB -(Crus favorite team since we was little) and some visits from friends.

Cru is back at Primary’s for inpatient chemo this week.

We are so grateful for the love & support. Please pray for all of us as we push through these next few weeks! 💛💛💛

Cru Update

We are home from Cru’s final dose of Cisplatin! 🎉

He’s had four total doses, each with major challenges:
1st: 10 days inpatient with sepsis, lung full of blood, and COVID
2nd: 7 days inpatient with severe mucositis
3rd: Managed at home but extremely difficult—no appetite, nothing tasted good
4th: Inpatient an extra five days due to side effects; TPN has helped tremendously this round

The good news—he’s HOME. His immune system had been at zero, but his counts are finally starting to rise, and we’re doing everything we can to keep him safe at home.
If all goes as planned, Cru has 10 weeks of chemo left:
2 outpatient doses (our first time!)
6 inpatient doses, each 3–4 nights
We’re hoping Cru will Ring the Bell in the second week of March, followed by clean scans and ongoing monitoring every three months. We’re all looking forward to some normalcy again—driving, the gym, and time with friends.

Some recent positives: Cru has missed being outdoors. The first pic is from a seven-mile hike he and Joe did just two weeks before diagnosis—yes, with an unknown cancer and large rib tumor. To get outside he slept in his hammock on our balcony (with many dad check-ins). Joe has basically become a nurse, and we’ve been incredible blessed by a “12 Days of Christmas” gift that has brought joy during a season spent mostly hunkered down.

Thank you to everyone who has prayed, supported, and loved our family through these grueling months—we truly couldn’t have done this without you.

We’ve been deeply impacted by the cancer world. These young warriors are the bravest, most beautiful souls. We love our cancer friends and are constantly praying and cheering for you. 💛

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas from our family to yours. ❤️🎄

💛 Cru Update (posting again without the scar pic bc it’s flagging it for many)

Cru’s been home recovering from surgery — some tough days, but he’s handled it like the fighter he is. His battle wound is healing great!

Pathology brought encouraging news:

* Clear margins — all known cancer removed.
* Two small spots (pleura lining & diaphragm) showed 100% necrosis — completely dead cancer cells.
* The main tumor showed 95% necrosis — an amazing chemo response!

While there was signs of some spread, everything removed was dead, and we’re hopeful the next chemo rounds will wipe out any possible remaining cancer cells.

Cru was able to spend time at home with visits from friends and enjoyed seeing cousins in town from Tennessee and California.

While we are feeling relief surgery is behind us and so grateful for his Chemo response, Cru still has hurdles to fight through. Tomorrow, Cru starts 20 more weeks of chemo — this round is tough meds, but we are ready to take on the next steps in fighting this!

Thank you for all the love and support! We are so incredibly grateful. Please keep praying for Cru as he takes on the next cycle of chemo! 🙏💛

đź’› Update on Cru

Cru has been home recovering from surgery. He’s had some really good days and some tougher ones, but overall he’s handled everything like the fighter he is. His battle wound is pretty incredible, and we’re thrilled with how it’s healing! (Scar pic included)

We received his pathology results from surgery, and there’s a lot of encouraging news to share:

* Clear margins! The surgeons achieved negative margins, meaning they believe they removed all known cancer cells.
* They found a small nodule on rib 11 that they removed and tested 100% necrosis — no live cancer cells found. We believe this spot was related to his pleural infusion at diagnosis.
* There was also a small spot on his diaphragm they removed that tested 100% necrosis. This area was right next to the main tumor and considered local spread.
* His main tumor showed 95% necrosis, indicating an incredible response to chemotherapy!

In summary: while pathology confirmed that cancer had spread slightly to two nearby areas, both were completely dead from chemo. This gives us so much hope that if any unknown lingering cancer cells remain, the upcoming chemotherapy will finish the job.

Cru has spent his recovery time laying low, watching football and an overnight camping with Joe. He’s also loved visits from friends and enjoyed having cousins in town from Tennessee & Cali.

Tomorrow, Cru begins four more five-week cycles of chemotherapy (20 weeks total). This next round includes the “red devil” and “splat” — both very tough on him and have previously led to hospital stays. We’re praying that this round goes smoothly and he can stay home.

🙏 Please pray for:
* Continued healing from surgery
* Chemotherapy to destroy all remaining cancer cells
* Strength for Cru’s body to handle treatment and avoid complications

Thank you, as always, for your love, prayers, and support. We’ve cherished this short window at home with Cru feeling relatively well — and we’ll keep fighting on! 💪💛

Update on Cru

Cru’s surgery went well. Dr. Kevin Jones, his lead surgeon, was very pleased with how things went and was able to remove most of rib #7, along with parts of ribs #6 and #8. They were also able to achieve negative margins, which is the best outcome we could have hoped for in surgery. In place of the removed ribs, they placed a Gore-Tex mesh to help protect and support the area moving forward.

The days following surgery were intense. Cru had to manage significant pain with IV medications and a pain pump. He also had two chest tubes in for several days, which were extremely uncomfortable. Getting those removed was a huge relief for him.

Now, he’s home and focused on healing. We’re still waiting on the pathology results to understand the level of tumor cell death and to look at a couple spots doctors wanted to test. Cru had a tremendous response to chemo before surgery, with major tumor shrinkage—so we’re praying that continues to be a good sign.

We’ll head in for his orthopedic follow-up next week, where his team will decide when to resume chemotherapy. They’re hoping to get started again as soon as he’s physically ready.

We can’t thank you enough for the incredible support we’ve received. The messages, gifts, and kindness shown to Cru and our family during this difficult time have meant so much. A special thank you to American Fork Football for the personalized gift—it was so thoughtful and deeply appreciated. Cru has built friendships through 7’s with players from several schools, and it’s been powerful to see that community rally around him. We also want to thank Manti Football for showing him love this week.

Thank you also for the written messages delivered to the hospital from teachers, coaches and friends at Skyridge. They brightened our stay. We are so grateful.

💛💛💛

Cru Update đź’›
After a tough 10 days, Cru finally got the green light to come home this past Monday and we were so ready to have him back! He couldn’t wait to get out of that hospital room.

His body has been through a lot and is now in full recovery mode taking it day by day, healing, and managing the pain as best he can.

With school starting this week, it's hard knowing he's missing out on all the fun and excitement. But more than anything, we’re grateful for your love, your prayers, and the endless support you’ve all shown through this journey.

A huge thank you to his amazing doctors and nurses. Cru was scheduled to start another round of chemo this past Thursday, but his doctor was kind to give a few more days to rest and recover at home. We’ll return Monday.

Keep fighting, keep praying, and keep spreading the love. We feel it and we love you all right back. 🫶🏼🫶🏼

Update: Cru’s 1rst chemo treatment is complete. The hospital stay went surprisingly well, but the days at home brought the reality of chemo; tired, nauseated, no energy, and no appetite. It was honestly hard to get through.

We came home with binders of information teaching us how to manage 13 prescriptions, IV’s and port care. We are still feeling all the feels. Still feels unreal.

Our wins in life have taken a dramatic turn. Instead of celebrating PR’s we celebrate a good hour or a good afternoon.

đź’Ş This Weeks Wins

✨Getting up and moving, even a little
✨A restful night’s sleep

✨Healthy calories going in

Every win matters. Thank you for being here. For caring. For cheering Cru on. Your support matters more than you know as we move through this journey, one step at a time.
