A Brief History of Fairmont Park
For generations, Fairmont Park has been a place where history and community come together. Established in 1930 on land once known as “Fairmont Springs,” the park has hosted countless memories—from youth sports and scout gatherings to community parades and cultural festivals. Highlights of its early years included a grand Greek Theater, a popular swimming pool, and scenic fish ponds. Today, Fairmont Park remains a vital part of the Sugar House neighborhood, blending rich history with modern amenities that invite recreation, relaxation, and community connection. What to do at Fairmont:
🏓 Pickleball Courts (6 courts, often busy but well-loved!)
🐾 Dog Park (separate off-leash areas for different dog sizes/energy levels, with shaded spots and water fountains)
⚽ Soccer Fields (open grassy areas perfect for games and practices)
🛹 Skate Park (featuring bowls and plaza-style elements for all skill levels)
🏐 Sand Volleyball Courts (multiple courts for casual and competitive play)
🦆 Duck Pond and Wildlife (a scenic pond for fishing, duck-feeding, and wildlife spotting)
🚶‍♀️ Walking Paths (paved paths perfect for walking, biking, or a relaxing stroll)
🍽️ Picnic Areas and Pavilion (covered pavilion with picnic tables for gatherings and events)
🛝 Playgrounds (modern equipment designed for kids, with some areas suited for ages 5-12)
🏊 Aquatic Center (indoor pool and children’s splash area, operated by Salt Lake County)

Sally hosted a great meeting POST meeting yesterday.

A few important updates.

Thursday!
June 11th- YAPPY HOUR!! Enjoy this fun event. I cannot be there so if any ends up attending, take pictures! 6pm-9pm

Saturday!!
Check out Imperial Park and the beautiful area around it and support the Music Stroll 3pm-8pm
https://heartsoul.org/music-stroll

Also Saturday, if you are at the park, we will have a table at a new market-type event at the park. We will have a map of the PLAN for Fairmont and Allen Parks, stickers, conversation and will be co-hosting with Landon Clark from the SHCC. We will see if this is a good way to meet people and or enjoy the park with a new partner. 830am-1200pm.

Park Updates

1) the EV charger is fixed!
2) the rose garden sprinkler link is neeing -re-repair, they are aware and working on it
3) the crumbling concrete parking blockers near the pool parking are reported and they will monitor. This is an area that will be re-done in the Upgrade so we will likely watch these for safety only
4) The pickle ball courts are in need of resurface, and this was reported and noted.
5) The large cattails in the pond are now a nuisance and have been reported. There are options for mitigation, we will talk with the botanist about this.
6) There are more plantings planned for the stream side areas of Fairmont, nit sure if 2026 or 2027 due to plant supply constraint.
7) Tree watering will continue by hand 3 times per week for the new trees and then on the usual cycle. If they cut back sprinklers, they will maintain hand watering of the smaller trees. Thank the staff! They will also remove the 1 dead tree near the pavilion, pickleball area.
8) Ideas for park volunteering include more tree wells near Simpson, Weeding the rise area, and trash pickup. The staff will let us know if there are other ideas.
9) On the Fairmont Upgrade—they have secured a contractor, they will do start next steps in 1 week, and we asked AGAIN about the plans for the fire circle area and the stream behind Simpson, they have not been addressed yet in plans. Kira reports they will reach out to us. They plan to break ground Summer 2027.
10) Toilet CIP- they will also hire the same contracting group to do the Toilet Inventory (they called it) and we will pilot a recommended model for Fairmont in the redesign.

All great news.

We complimented the park staff and leaders as they are really keeping the park nice.
