Utah Cultural Alliance

Utah Cultural Alliance Founded in 1980, UCA is a membership association representing 300 organizations and 111,919 Utahns working in the humanities and arts.

It is the statewide advocacy voice of Utah’s diverse cultural industries. The Utah Cultural Alliance (UCA) is the unified statewide voice and support organization for the cultural community. By fortifying cultural organizations and individuals within Utah, we strengthen Utah as a whole. Over the years, UCA has evolved into a membership-driven organization that includes museums (arts, history, scie

nce, botanical gardens, and zoos), universities, archives, libraries, artists, patrons, as well as arts, folk arts, cultural, humanities, science, education, preservation, history, and heritage organizations. Additionally, businesses, corporations, and foundations belong to UCA to support the continuing viability and visibility of Utah’s cultural community. UCA offers programs and services on three levels: advocacy, awareness, and professional development. In a nutshell:

Advocacy // UCA advocates on behalf of culture to Utah’s elected and government officials; advances grassroots involvement by its members in public policy; keeps members apprised of public policy and funding changes that effect the community; assesses the cultural positions of elected officials through candidate surveys; and tracks, takes positions on, and lobbies for and against bills and appropriation decisions that affect the cultural sector. UCA houses the Utah state arts captain for Americans for the Arts and facilitates all communication with the delegation from Washington DC for National Arts Advocacy Day. Professional Development // UCA fosters a sense of community through events; nurtures collaboration between cultural organizations, government, business, and individuals; develops skills through professional training opportunities; encourages networking and increased cooperation and collaboration within the cultural community; and recognizes important individuals and organizations to the sector by awarding annual Pillars of the Community, Lifetime Cultural Achievement, and Lifetime Cultural Supporter Awards. Awareness // UCA builds general community awareness of the creative and cultural sector through outwardly focused awareness campaigns and especially through our popular eNewsletter, blog, and social media pages. We are an important statewide information hub and resource center that measures the economic impact of the state and disseminates this impact through our annual State of the State Report.

In the final day of Creative West’s Arts Policy Exchange, we’re digging into the “business side” of advocacy, examining coalition building through an "Arts and..." analysis, doing some interactive mapping of the region’s public infrastructure for the arts, and developing a unified regional vision and strategy for the future.

We’re grateful for this space to share experiences, refine our practices, and consider new directions for our work.

Mary Ann Carter, the chair of the National Endowment for the Arts, was in Utah for the first time in 10 years and and toured an America 250 exhibit.

She is particularly impressed with Utahns' support of the arts. Utah, she said, is consistently No. 1 or 2 with adult attendance of music, theater or dance productions. But, equally important, she said, she admires the way Utah integrates the arts into schools and teaching.

Advocacy doesn't need to take hours! In just two minutes, you can make your voice heard—take the survey now! https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/8767922/NationalArtsPolicySurvey

Americans for the Arts works year-round with policymakers to advance federal arts policy.

But effective advocacy starts with a simple question: Are we focused on what the field actually needs right now?

That’s why we launched the 2026 National Arts Policy Survey — five straightforward questions to help us align our priorities with yours.

The survey covers:

→ Federal investment in the NEA, NEH, and cultural infrastructure
→ Arts in the economy and creative workforce support
→ Artist income stability
→ Arts education from pre-K through higher ed
→ Arts in health and human services

There’s also space to share your story. Because the data makes the case — but the stories make it matter.

Two minutes. Your perspective. Directly shapes our federal policy agenda.
