Sageland Collaborative is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides technical support, scientific research, and GIS (computer mapping) analyses to land managers and other conservation partners. Sageland Collaborative provides scientific research, technical support including the development of ecological assessment methods and conservation tools, and computer mapping analyses using Geographic Information

Systems (GIS) to land managers, agency biologists, citizen scientists and other conservation partners. Sageland Collaborative fills a critical niche here in Utah and the Intermountain West, by providing the scientific support needed to support informed regional land use decisions in a way that restores native wildlife, maintains ecological integrity, expands wilderness, protects biodiversity, and provides for ecosystem resilience in the face of population growth and climate change.

We’re thrilled to introduce our 2026 Seasonal Staff!

Elan, Abigail, and Kort will be joining us throughout the summer and fall to support our Riverscape Restoration and Communications & Outreach efforts.

From monitoring our restoration sites to determine ecosystem health to engaging with our communities at outreach events and crafting compelling communications, our seasonal staff are vital to achieving our ambitious goals for wildlife conservation and community engagement.

Broad-tailed hummingbirds are one of five commonly observed hummingbird species in the Intermountain West. During the summer, hummingbirds migrate through the region to feed on insects and flower nectar. Hummingbirds are especially attracted to red, tubular flowers. In your home garden they’re likely to visit your penstemon, columbines, beebalm, hyssop, and salvia.

Sageland Collaborative is proud to offer opportunities to gain hands-on fieldwork experience, foster connections in the natural resources field, and engage communities in conservation work.

But these experiences require a lot of careful planning, training, and coordination to pull off.

Join biologists from , , and to survey for pollinators at a restoration site along Parley’s Creek!

When: Wednesday, June 10, 2026 from 9am-12pm
Where: Parley’s Creek (15 minutes from Salt Lake City, UT)

We will be using iNaturalist to log flowering plants and pollinating insect observations along Parley’s Creek, where we have previously conducted riverscape restoration efforts.

Surveying will involve hiking off trail over steep and uneven terrain and around the edge of the creek where footing may be slick. There are no restrooms, no potable water, and limited cell service at the site.

These surveys help us understand how low-tech restoration efforts like beaver dam analogs benefit overall ecosystem health, including that of plants and pollinators.

Utah is home to over 1,100 native bee species – from fuzzy bumble bees to teeny tiny fairy bees, these incredibly diverse insects are not only super cool, cute, fascinating, etc. etc. but they’re also important pollinators!

¡Feliz día mundial de las abejas!

Utah es hogar de más de 1,100 especies de abejas nativas – desde los abejorros peludos hasta las abejitas mineras, esta increíble diversidad de insectos no sólo es padrísima, bonita, fascinante, etc. etc. ¡sino que también son importantes polinizadores!

We’re looking to add members to our Board of Directors! 🎉

Our Board is made up of volunteers who are passionate about wildlife conservation and follow our Mission and Vision Statements to guide the future of this work. Board members serve two-year terms and commit to four Board meetings and four committee meetings per year.

Specifically, we’re seeking folks who have volunteered or partnered with us and have experience in any of the following:

🐸 Community Engagement
🐝 Human Resources
🦫 Non-profit Governance

Happy May! 🌼🐸🧡

Do you feel it — the vibrancy of life in the air? As the weather warms and flowers bloom, the wildlife that we love shimmy and stir: shorebirds flock to the shores of Great Salt Lake, the buzz of bumble bees fill the air, and the wetland chorus rings with life.

Like the wild creatures, we’re also stirring in anticipation of a busy field season!

American pika are small, high-alpine mammals in the lagomorph group (closely related to hares and rabbits). Pika live in cool, rocky dens amongst boulder and scree fields above the tree line, a home that is shrinking as climate change warms our high-alpine zones. This loss of habitat leaves an uncertain future for the pika.
