AQ education📚: What are VOCs?

Volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, are one of two compound types (the other being fossil fuel gases) that contribute to the formation of ozone, summer’s invisible air pollutant.

While VOCs do occur naturally, most of them originate from many everyday consumer and industrial products, like paint, air fresheners, adhesives and others.

Attention SLC and Davis Counties!

The day is looking nice — and yet — today’s air quality is forecasted to hit 🟠. UNHEALTHY levels. Why? Ground-level forms in warm temperatures, and it’s invisible to the naked eye.

Consider limiting your fossil fuel and VOC emissions. Stay informed, stay safe!

Cleaner air? UCAIR 🤝 GREENbike

Through its Grants Program, UCAIR has helped in years past with a maintenance vehicle and the expansion of its bike-share program.

And soon, one million rides will have taken place since GREENbike launched 13 years ago — offsetting millions of pounds of CO2 and burning millions of calories along the way.

The UCAIR Grants Program is proudly sponsored by , with additional support from / .

Did you know indoor air quality can be 2−5x worse than outdoor air? Sometimes up to 100 times worse?

Using an air purifier is one way you can reduce indoor air pollution, but if you don’t have one (or if you want an extra, low-cost device), you can make your own...

All you’ll need is:

1) an air filter
2) bungee cords or duct tape
3) and a box fan

That’s it. A few minutes of setup can make a noticeable difference in the air you breathe at home.

Today’s and tomorrow’s air quality forecast for Salt Lake County — and Monday’s forecast for Davis County — …

Unhealthy for sensitive groups.

Stay safe, prepared, and consider limiting fossil fuels and VOC emissions to reduce ozone levels. It all adds up to cleaner air!

Upgrade you gas can, help the air.

UCAIR’s Gas Can Exchange is happening next weekend, and it’s a simple way to make a difference for Utah’s air quality.

Bring your old, emptied gas cans for a brand new SureCan (2.5-gallon and 5-gallon cans offered), FREE until supplies last. Old and leaky gas cans contribute to ground-level ozone, a major air pollutant that worsens each summer as temperatures climb.

📍 Davis Technical College, 550 E 300 S, Kaysville, UT
🗓️ Saturday, May 30, 8:00 a.m. – noon (or until supplies run out)

Open to everyone. No need to be a resident of Davis County to participate. Limit of two gas cans per household. More details here: ucair.org/gas-can-exchange/

Thank you to our sponsors Chevron and Rio Tinto Kennecott, and to Davis Technical College, our venue sponsor, for hosting.

UCAIR is registered to take part in the Local Voices program, and we wanted to let you know how you can help (our community group) earn cash rewards!

Voconiq Local Voices provides the Kennecott community with an opportunity to tell Rio Tinto what matters most.

When a survey is completed, you can vote for UCAIR. The more votes we get, the bigger the share of donation money we receive at the end of the survey.

Take the survey today and help us with our fundraising efforts!
