Introducing: The GenerationAll Policy Center (GAP Center)

The GAP Center is the advocacy and systems change arm of GenerationAll, focused on creating policies, partnerships, and public initiatives that reduce toxic stress, prevent abuse, strengthen families, and interrupt cycles of generational trauma and sexual violence.

We believe healing cannot rely only on individual services. Lasting change requires systems that recognize trauma early, support families holistically, and prioritize prevention alongside accountability. We look at gaps in the system and advocate for change to address them.

Join us on June 25th from 7:00–8:00 PM MST as the GenerationAll Book Club welcomes Jessica Willis Fisher for our June meetup featuring her book, Unspeakable: Surviving My Childhood and Finding My Voice.

In her memoir, Jessica shares her story of the abuse and trauma she experienced in her childhood, and her journey toward healing. Today, she shares her story to support other survivors and advocate for change in our communities.

Jessica will join us virtually to share insights into her story and advocacy, answer questions from the group, and perform a couple of her songs.

Finding the right support after experiencing trauma can feel overwhelming. That's why the PortAll was created as a place where survivors, families, and communities can access trusted resources, education, and community in one space.

The resources highlighted here are just a small sample of the resources recommended for survivors. We are continuing to build out a comprehensive database of mental health, advocacy, and healing resources to make it easier to find support for those who need it.

Many of the myths surrounding sexual violence have existed for generations, shaping how people respond to disclosures, support survivors, and think about prevention. When those myths go unchallenged, the impact can be far-reaching.

Join us for an upcoming PortAll webinar in collaboration with Family Haven featuring Stuart Harper, LCSW and Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, on June 3rd at 11 am as he discusses factors that correlate with trauma and the long-term impacts trauma can have on children.

Stuart has spent 28 years serving children and families through Family Haven and has dedicated much of his career to helping children better understand safety, self-advocacy, and healing. We are grateful to have him join us.

Research continues to show a strong connection between ACEs and mental health outcomes over a lifetime. In Utah, many adults report mental health outcomes connected to toxic stress and childhood adversity, and individuals with higher ACE scores face significantly greater risks for anxiety, depression, and ADHD.

While trauma can have lasting impacts, it does not mean outcomes are fixed. Through earlier recognition and intervention, trauma-informed care, and stronger systems of support, there is a meaningful opportunity to improve long-term mental health outcomes for children, families, and future generations across Utah.

Today we had the opportunity to attend the Intermountain Children’s Health Network Utah Retreat and join conversations surrounding childhood health, trauma, and long-term outcomes. We especially want to recognize our board member Neal Davis for his leadership and advocacy in the healthcare space around the impacts of childhood trauma and toxic stress on epigenetics.

We are grateful to have board members and partners who are helping move these conversations forward and working every day to create healthier futures for children and families across Utah!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and trauma can have a lasting impact on mental health. The statistics reflect experiences many survivors carry, including higher rates of distress, PTSD, and other mental health challenges.

Throughout Mental Health Awareness Month, we will continue to highlight the connection between trauma and mental health, with a focus on adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and the role early detection and intervention can play in shaping outcomes.
