Plant of the Week! 🌱Platycodon grandiflorus (balloon flower) is a clump-forming perennial in the family Campanulaceae (Bellflower family) along with bellflowers, lobelia, calico flowers, and the cool Mauritius bellflower that produces red nectar! It is native to eastern Asia and eastern Russia where it grows on open hillsides and in meadows. From mid-summer to early autumn, it produces distinctively inflated flower buds that swell like small balloons before opening into star-shaped, five-lobed blossoms that range in color from deep violet to soft pinks and whites. You can find this inflated inflorescence in the Rose and Children’s Gardens.

Celeste is here with her Fall Plant Sale ! This is Epimedium stellulatum ‘Long Leaf Form’ or barrenwort. "Barrenwort is a terrible name for a gorgeous plant, and this one is particularly elegant to me. I’ve been low-key obsessed with it since we planted it in the Celebration Garden a couple of springs ago. It’ll be for sale in our shade perennials section."

Our Fall Plant Sale is coming up next weekend and we wanted to share some ! Ben’s here with two natives that will be available at the sale. First up is Mirabilis multiflora, also known as Desert Four O’Clock. These beautiful pink flowers open in the evening and attract lots of native pollinators.

Next up he has Celtis reticulata, the Western Hackberry. This is a drought tolerant tree that would be perfect for your waterwise garden.
