Interethnic Health Alliance in-country manager Stella Omuse, along with medical personnel from Marie Stopes International, returned to the community of Paya to conduct follow-up family planning and cervical cancer interventions. Approximately 250 women and ten men were seen. Seventy women received various family planning methods and thirty were treated for serious infections. One hundred fifty women were screened for cervical cancer with eight of the women being referred to the local clinic for further screening. “Deworming medication was also provided for approximately 200 children. In January 2020, Stella Omuse, IHA in-country manager and medical personnel from the Maria Stopes Foundation, journeyed to the Buyaga community, in Masaka District to conduct family planning and cervical cancer screening services. Approximately 200 women received services and information. One hundred 175 children and ten men were also in attendance. So far, approximately 1,500 women have received family planning services and information since IHA launched the initiative in May 2019. “Deworming” medication was provided to parents at family planning events. As a result, 1200 children have received deworming medication.

🇺🇬Happy New Year from IHA! 🇺🇬

Some Highlights from 2019:

IHA expanded partnerships with local non-profit organizations: Koliata Iduwe and Ubuntu Healing Arts to provide: art and leadership activities to 80 students. P7 girls (50 students) were taught how to make reusable menstrual hygiene kits.

A total of 8 new women's microloan groups were created in Tororo District.

Exciting new opportunities for 2020: a new partnership with the Global Health Department at the University of Utah, expansion of family planning camps, information sessions to reach more men in our communities, and the addition of new microloan groups.
