Bharatanatyam, evolved from Sadir or DasiAattam is an ancient South Indian dance form, with many centuries of tradition subsumed in it. At the same time its revival and popularity in its current form is more recent, stemming in large part due to the efforts of Smt Rukmini Devi Arundale from the 20th century. Rukmini Devi founded Kalakshetra, a center for performing arts in Chennai, India. We are i

nterested in performing our traditional repertoire as well as collaborating to create new and interesting dance items that can be relevant, accessible and add to the rich tapestry of Dance in the Salt Lake Valley. We seek to bring in artistes of international calibre to perform, give lec-dems and conduct workshops and master classes in the classical Indian dance forms.
