Wasatch Mountain Institute offers transformative, experiential, science-based programs for school groups, families, communities, non-profit organizations, business and industry groups, and the general public. Our current programs include spring and fall field science day programs and winter SnowSchool day programs for school groups at the Rock Cliff Nature Center in Jordanelle State Park near Park

City, UT. Simultaneously, WMI is pursuing an encompassing vision that will link together four strategic learning centers in the Wasatch range and Salt Lake City to create the most significant new outdoor education initiative in North America.

Come participate in the City Nature Challenge at Rock Cliff! We will be hosting a BioBlitz event where participants can explore the outdoors and document local plants and wildlife.

Participants are encouraged to download the iNaturalist and Seek by iNaturalist apps before the event, as service can be spotty at the nature center. We will provide guidance on how to use these apps to document and identify observations during the event.

"I am from Colorado and moved to Utah to study biology. Backpacking and Skiing are my favorite ways to explore the mountains. My favorite alpine flower is an elephant’s head lousewort. I love teaching because it reminds me how much joy the outdoors brings people!"

We’re hiring Field Instructors for Spring 2026!

Join Wasatch Mountain Institute to lead youth in hands-on outdoor education through day and overnight programs.

- Flexible, seasonal position
- Programs run Monday–Friday
- Late April start date
- Pay starting at $15/hr (based on experience + certifications)

Must be able to commit to 2–3 program days per week and feel confident leading groups outdoors.

Join us Saturday, March 21st at 11 AM for a chance to observe a pair of nesting bald eagles! Walk with a naturalist to learn about bald eagle mating and nesting behavior while viewing the nest from a distance. Binoculars will be provided.

Join us for a guided walk with the Beaver Ecology and Relocation Collective! We will be searching for signs of beaver activity (chewed sticks, tracks, and dams) and learning how they shape and support river ecosystems. All ages welcome!
