🇬🇧 We spent a lovely Saturday with fellow Jane Austen aficionados last week at the Jane Austen Society of North America: Utah Region’s Box Hill Picnic.

🌳 After an arduous climb to the Box Hill summit, we were rewarded with a grand vista of the lush valley below, brimming with bucolic beauty.

🌲 Upon descending from the heights, we rewarded ourselves with a lovely picnic lunch, followed by an exquisite selection of strawberry themed desserts - including a very tasty strawberry gâteau.

⚓️ Our somewhat embellished account of the circumstances, together with a sensible portion of socio-political background information, made for an entertaining addition to the day’s attractions at our annual Glorious First of June Regency Picnic.

🇫🇷 🔱 🇬🇧 This day marks the 228th anniversary of NELSON’s victory over Vice Admiral BRUEYS at the Battle of the Nile. Nelson’s Mediterranean squadron enveloped the French fleet, then riding at anchor in the shoal-laden Aboukir Bay, not far from Alexandria, Egypt.

⚓️ While both squadrons suffered heavy damage, the British Royal Navy emerged victorious, capturing or destroying all but two of the French ships of the line. Nelson’s victory was due in no small measure to the intrepidity & quick thinking of his Captains, each backed by the courage & skill of their respective crews.

⚜️ We have returned from a lovely weekend at this year’s Colonial Heritage Festival, where we presented several first-person impressions of the French Expeditionary Corps of 1780.

⚜️ It was lovely to see so many of our Regency era friends during this magnificent, three-day event, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

⚜️ We hope to see you all again at next year’s Colonial Heritage Festival, scheduled over the July 4 weekend, 2027. 🇺🇸🏳️🇪🇸🇬🇧🇱🇺🇫🇷
