NKUT No-Kill Utah (NKUT) is an initiative led by Best Friends Animal Society to end the killing of dogs an That number should be zero. Join us for NKUT.

Last year, nearly 8,000 dogs and cats were killed in Utah’s shelters simply because they didn’t have a safe place to call home. NKUT is an initiative led by Best Friends Animal Society that brings together passionate individuals, city shelters, and an entire coalition of animal welfare organizations to end the killing of dogs and cats in shelters throughout the entire state of Utah by the year 201

9. Our plan is straightforward: provide spay/neuter services where they are needed most so that fewer animals go into shelters, and increase adoptions so that more animals are placed into new homes. Step by critical step, we believe that together, we can bring the number of pets killed in Utah shelters to zero. Together, we can make Utah a no-kill state and Save Them All®. We monitor this page heavily, and try to respond to every person. We also monitor comments, and those that do not fall within our commenting policy will be deleted. You can see the policy we follow here: http://blogs.bestfriends.org/index.php/comment-policy/.

Launched in 2014 and led by Best Friends Animal Society, the NKUT (No-Kill Utah) initiative brings together Utah's shelters, rescue groups, other animal welfare organizations and passionate individuals to end the killing of cats and dogs in Utah's shelters.

We are extremely close, but there's still work to be done. We're confident that by working together, we can save many more lives. We've identified the counties shown on our map with the largest lifesaving gaps. The map indicates the number of additional animals we must save this year in each community to reach no-kill.

You can do your part by supporting community cats in your area and adopting your next pet. Thank you for being a part of this lifesaving network and for bringing Utah closer than ever to no-kill.

You have an amazing opportunity right now to acknowledge and honor ⭐ the person behind NKUT Coalition partner Nuzzles & Co.'s Reservation Rescue program, which has saved thousands of lives from several Native American Reservations since 2014. Darrell McCurtain, Nuzzles' Intake and Community Outreach Director, has been selected as an Unsung Hero by the Petco Foundation and Victoria Stilwell for his incredible dedication to ensuring that all pets have a home.

Please watch Darrell's story and cast your vote at petcofoundation.org/unsung-heroes

As one of only five nominees nationwide, your vote will help Darrell earn the National Unsung Hero award, AND will help Nuzzles & Co. earn an additional $50,000 grant award! Vote for before May 15th at 11 AM MST. - jaimi

We are so excited to announce that we have amped up our spay and neuter appointment support for dogs and cats at our Orem Clinic location.

Appointments that have historically been booked in 3 minutes or less are still available now. That’s right, we still have appointments for dogs and cats to be spayed or neutered at our Orem Clinic location this weekend!

Additionally, we have increased our support for outdoor free-roaming cats and starting November 11th we will begin to take an additional 10 walk-in appointments for feral cats on Mondays, including vaccination spots for the public. Please check our scheduling website for details about our expanded appointment options! - amy

Since 2015 our South Ogden Clinic has provided more than 10,000 spay and neuter procedures for dogs and cats across the Wasatch Front. Throughout that time we have struggled to staff the facility and stay open to the public, in part due to a national shortage of veterinarians and skilled technicians that all animal welfare organizations face.

Due to these circumstances, we regretfully announce the upcoming closure of the South Ogden Clinic location. We are grateful to our supporters and donors who helped make it possible for us to have opened and provided services on and off for the past four years.

The Daily Herald has taken a stance in favor of Utah County cats, encouraging county leaders to adopt a return-to-field program. Thank you, Daily Herald, for supporting the life of Utah County cats!

If you live in Utah County, you too can help save the lives of hundreds of cats. Contact your local city representatives and let them know that you are in favor of a return-to-field program for the cats in your county.

If you don't live in Utah County, you can still help by sharing this post with your networks. - amy

While writing last Sunday’s in-depth article on high animal euthanasia rates in Utah County, our reporter tried her best to communicate all sides of the story in an unbiased way.
