AGC of Utah was in the room where it happened. 🏗️
Today we met with DOPL to address a proposed rule change that would have required contractors to carry insurance limits of $1M/$3M — coverage that's nearly impossible to find in today's market and would have been a significant barrier for small contractors.
After presenting our case, the board voted on a more workable solution:
đź“‹ Previous requirement: $100K/$300K
🚫 Proposed (problematic): $1M/$3M — limited market availability, very expensive
âś… New rule: $1M per incident / $2M aggregate
đź“… Rule will be published, open for public comment, and take effect over the next couple of months
🔄 Applies to new contractors and existing contractors at time of renewal
This is advocacy in action — finding the balance between protecting the public and keeping the industry accessible for small contractors.
A huge thank you to AGC's President/CEO, Joey Gilbert, and Director of Government Affairs, Gavin Gilbert with AGC of Utah for being at the table and making sure contractor voices were heard today. 👏
