Jordan River Commission

Jordan River Commission The Jordan River Commission was formed by an interlocal cooperation agreement in August 2010.

An interlocal agency that facilitates regional cooperation to implement the Blueprint Jordan River, provides a forum for coordination of recreation, restoration, and responsible development, and serves as a technical resource to riverfront communities. The Commission was created to bring together cities, counties, state and federal agencies that have jurisdiction of the Jordan River, and other par

tners and stakeholders, to implement the projects, programs and partnerships outlined in the Blueprint Jordan River (http://jordanrivercommission.com/vision/). The Commission serves as a technical resource to riverfront communities, fosters outdoor recreation and ecological services that the Jordan River Parkway offers, provides a forum for regional coordination and cooperation, and promotes best practices for conservation, restoration, urban ecological planning and responsible development along the river corridor.

We are talking about water safety this June! Water safety goes beyond knowing how to swim, being prepared for emergencies is important too. 💧☀️

Water Safety Tip #3: Learn CPR and First Aid. In an emergency, knowing what to do in those first few moments can make a critical difference. CPR and basic first aid skills can help you respond quickly and provide assistance while waiting for emergency responders to arrive.

You never know when these skills may be needed, whether you're at the pool, on a boat, at a lake, or in a river. Taking the time to learn CPR and first aid can help you feel more confident and prepared to act when it matters most.

Each week, we’ll continue sharing more information about important water safety tips and ways to help protect yourself, your family, and your community.

Have a great and SAFE summer!

Wild Wednesdays:🌾Whiplash Willow (Salix lasiandra)🌾

Did you know Whiplash Willow (Salix lasiandra) is native to Utah? This native tree plays an important role in riparian ecosystems like the Jordan River. Its roots help stabilize riverbanks, reduce erosion, provide shade that can help regulate water temperatures, and create habitat for birds, pollinators, and other wildlife.

Healthy native vegetation like Whiplash Willow helps support a stronger and more resilient river system.

👀Where to spot them: You can find whiplash willow along the Jordan River in areas with wet soils and slow-moving water. It commonly grows on riverbanks, wetland edges, and restored habitat areas.

We are talking about water safety this June! 💧☀️

Summer is here, and spending time around pools, lakes, rivers, and other water activities can be fun for everyone. Taking a few simple precautions can help keep you and your loved ones safe.

Water Safety Tip #2: Wear a life jacket. To help protect yourself from unexpected slips, falls, or emergencies in and around the water, wear a life jacket whenever appropriate. It only takes a few seconds to put one on, but those few seconds can make a big difference in keeping you safe. Be sure to wear a properly fitted, U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket during boating, water sports, or other activities around open water. 🛟

Each week, we’ll continue sharing more information about important water safety tips and ways to help protect yourself, your family, and your community.

✨Blueprint Jordan River Mondays

The Blueprint Jordan River is our shared vision and action plan for a healthier, more welcoming river corridor. It guides work across seven focus areas like water health, recreation, safety, and community engagement to help connect people to the Jordan River in meaningful ways.

💙 Focus Area of the Week - Recreation
Goal 1.3 - Provide Adequate Recreational Amenities in a Variety of Settings, Including Both Passive And Active Recreational Uses.

Summer along the Jordan River means more people getting outside, exploring trails, and connecting with nature. The Jordan River Blueprint highlights the importance of creating recreational opportunities for everyone, from birdwatching and painting, to biking, walking, and fishing. Through accessible boardwalks, improved trail connections, educational signage, enhanced fishing access, and protected habitat areas, these improvements can help create a river corridor that supports both people and nature.
