Trying to find affordable housing for your family? We know how hard that can be!

Meet the Howick, our newest affordable housing complex that was designed for families to thrive.

With 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-bedroom units, there’s space for growing families. In-unit washers and dryers mean laundry day doesn’t require a trip across town. A community kitchen and designated Kids Space for neighbors to gather and build relationships. An outdoor playground gives kids a safe place to play steps from home. And you’re just minutes from schools, parks, shopping, and public transit.

But what really makes The Howick family-friendly is the support. CDCU’s Community Navigation team is on-site to help with housing stability, financial planning, and connections to community resources. Because affordable housing isn’t just about rent-it’s about creating the conditions where families can actually thrive.

For families earning 30-60% of Area Median Income, The Howick makes quality, family-sized housing accessible. Applications are open now.

As we celebrate Pride Month, we want to reaffirm CDCU's commitment to fair housing for all. Our services are for everyone regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion, or any other characteristic. We work to make sure everyone has equal access to stable, affordable housing and the support to get there.

In Utah, sexual orientation and gender identity are protected classes under fair housing law. That means discrimination in housing based on who you are is illegal. At CDCU, we're committed to ensuring that protection is more than just words on paper.

If you've experienced housing discrimination, our HUD-certified housing counselors are here to help. We can explain your rights, help you understand fair housing protections, and connect you to resources. Our fair housing and rental counseling is completely free.

You deserve a safe, stable home. And we're here to help you get there. Call 801-994-7222 or visit cdcutah.org!

We want to give a special thank you to Ryan Peel for his incredible service to CDCU's Board of Directors.

Ryan joined our board in 2016 and stepped into the role of Board President in 2023, leading with vision, dedication, and a deep commitment to our mission. When he stepped down at the beginning of this year, he didn't disappear, he stayed on for six months to help ensure a smooth transition and support our new Board President, Zachery Taylor.

That's the kind of leadership that changes organizations. Ryan's contributions to CDCU have strengthened our ability to serve Utah families on their path toward financial security, housing stability, and access to affordable homes.

Thank you, Ryan, for your service, your leadership, and your continued belief in this work. We're grateful for you.

We get a lot of inquiries about rental assistance. We get it-rent is expensive, and when you're behind, financial help feels like the only solution.

Right now, CDCU doesn't have rental assistance funds available. But here's what we DO have: free one-on-one rental counseling from HUD-certified housing counselors who can help you stay housed, understand your rights, prevent eviction, and connect to resources.

Our rental counseling covers:
✓ Fair housing rights and how to appeal unfair application denials
✓ Landlord/tenant laws and understanding your lease
✓ Eviction prevention strategies
✓ Budgeting to prioritize rent payments
✓ Housing search assistance and connections to HUD programs
✓ Planning for future homeownership

Whether you're behind on rent, facing eviction, struggling to find affordable housing, or just need help understanding your rights as a renter, we're here to help. All of our services are completely free.

Salt Lake City renters: CDCU partners with Salt Lake City through the Tenant Resource Center to provide Community Navigation services and additional renter resources.

Since launching their Utah operations in June 2025, Thrivent Bank has been a committed partner in community and economic development. We're grateful for their support of our matched savings program, a new initiative that helps first-time homebuyers build savings and receive a match when they're ready to purchase a home.

Thrivent's focus on empowering clients to make responsible financial decisions aligns perfectly with CDCU's mission. Together, we're helping Utah families achieve financial security, housing stability, and access to affordable homeownership.

Building a path to homeownership takes time, commitment, and the right partners. Thank you, Thrivent Bank, for investing in Utah families and making homeownership more achievable.
