Utah Afterschool Network

Utah Afterschool Network Our Vision: Every child in Utah has access to high-quality afterschool programs.

UAN and its partners believe high quality out-of-school time programs improve outcomes for children and youth in a variety of ways. Participation in quality programs improves academic achievement, school attendance, student engagement, work-study habits, and social and emotional development. Additionally, afterschool programs keep kids healthy and safe, support working families, and foster strong

links among schools, families, and communities. The supports and services that high quality out-of-school time opportunities provide are especially important for low-income and minority youth who often lack sustained access to enriching activities and academic support during non-school hours.

This year, the Utah Afterschool Network helped secure $2.9 million in new state funding for afterschool programs—opening the door for more kids to access safe, enriching spaces beyond the school day. When critical federal funding for 21st CCLC programs was delayed, we mobilized quickly and led the charge to get those dollars released to the programs and families counting on them.

At the same time, we’ve continued to build a stronger, more connected afterschool system—convening regional networks, amplifying the voices of providers and families, and championing afterschool and summer programs in key decision-making spaces across Utah and the country.

This work fuels opportunity, stability, and belonging for young people—but it doesn’t happen on its own.

What if one afternoon could change everything?

For the youth supported by Utah Afterschool Network, afterschool programs mean homework help, new friendships, and trusted adults who show up every day. These are the moments that build confidence, spark curiosity, and open doors to brighter futures.

This week, during Utah Gives, you can help make those moments possible.

Your support strengthens programs across Utah—creating safe, engaging spaces where young people feel seen, supported, and inspired to dream bigger.

Join us in making an impact that lasts far beyond the school day.

💫 Give. Share. Support.

The Utah Afterschool Network team is excited to share that, thanks to your continued support, outreach, and advocacy, we have secured $2.9 million to expand access to afterschool programs across the state!

This appropriations request, sponsored by Representative Angela Romero, received strong support from the Economic and Community Development Committee during the 2026 legislative session.

These funds will be released later this spring as a competitive grant, administered by UAN, to support programs in the FY 2026–27 school year. We are currently working with the state TANF office to finalize the scope and requirements, and will share updates on the request for proposals as soon as they are available. No additional details are available at this time.

After years of advocacy, program visits, and support from youth, families, community members, and state and local leaders, this represents a major win for afterschool programs in Utah!

Thank you for helping make this possible!

To all adults caring for youth, let's talk about YOUR resilience...

We cannot underestimate the critical connection between youth's resilience and the health and wellness of the adults in those children's lives.

The Building Your Bounce workshop empowers individuals to treat resilience as a learnable, dynamic skill that can be nurtured at any stage of life through intentional practice and communal support. While each session focuses on your personal growth, you will walk away with ideas, resources, and reflections that you can use to support the youth and adults in both your personal and professional life.

Register for this amazing workshop on or before April 13th to reserve your slot! Email [email protected] for any questions.
