🚨Publication Alert! 🚨 We are so excited to announce a new piece by Fellow Lindsey Larsen on The Educator’s Room blog: "When Growth Refuses to Look Like What We Expect."

Lindsey explores the complex intersection of disability and second-language acquisition through the story of Yaneth, a sixth-grade multilingual learner. Lindsey challenges us to rethink how we define "success" in a system built on rigid timelines and standardized benchmarks.

The Teacher Fellows are rounding out our spotlight with two sessions that bridge the gap between high-level theory and everyday classroom practice. 🎓 Whether you’re navigating state standards or looking for a research-backed pedagogical shift, these sessions are for you!

Here are the final two deep dives we’re bringing to the conference:

✅ Reflect, Self-Assess, and Apply: Making the UETS Practical
This interactive session helps educators shift from seeing standards as evaluation language to using them as tools for reflection and growth. Educators will activate prior knowledge, explore a clear overview of the Utah Effective Teaching Standards, and engage in brief self-assessment across key domains: Learners & Learning, Instructional Design & Clarity, Instructional Practice, Classroom Climate, and Professional Responsibility.

🧩 That’s What She Said: Modern Research vs. Montessori
This presentation examines how recent research on how students learn reinforces foundational principles established by early educational theorists, including Maria Montessori. It will further explore practical strategies for applying the tenets of these theories within traditional classroom settings, bridging historical insight with contemporary practice.

🗓️ Date: March 16 & 17, 2026

The Teacher Fellows are back with another two session spotlights leading up to our lineup! 🌟 These two sessions are all about the core of what we do: building authentic connections and ensuring every student has the tools to succeed.

Here’s a look at what we’re bringing to the Salt Palace:

🔊 Amplify: Growing Authentic Connections Supporting All Learners
Carly Maloney shares four key ways she has helped her students of all backgrounds to grow. Carly gives strategies and examples for educators in building connections with their students and helping their students to build connections with each other and the community in which they live so that ALL students feel like they belong, that they are included, and that they can learn and succeed.

📖 Are We on the Same Page? Unpacking Reading on Grade Level
Utah is poised for major changes in literacy policy, but impactful reform starts with a shared understanding of success. This presentation tackles the core of the literacy debate: What does 'reading on grade level' actually look like, and how do we measure it? Join Brooke as she analyzes Utah's current definition of proficiency and the vital link between early reading wins and future academic achievement.

The Teacher Fellows at aren't just talking about tech—we’re diving deep into the human side of education. 🤝 Our next two spotlighted sessions focus on the "soft skills" that make the hardest impact: emotional intelligence and leadership.

Here’s what’s coming up on the schedule:

🧘 When Emotions Run High: Regulating Yourself with Students, Parents, and Colleagues
This presentation focuses on practical self-regulation strategies educators can use when emotions run high—whether in the classroom, a parent meeting, or a challenging team interaction. Participants will explore how stress impacts decision-making, communication, and relationships, and learn simple, realistic tools to stay grounded, responsive, and professional in the moment.

👑 Teachers as Leaders: In and Outside the Classroom
What we do as educators is often dictated by those who are not in our classrooms. We lead in our classrooms and should lead outside of them too.

The Teacher Fellows are keeping the momentum going for ! 🍎 Our next Fellows sessions at the upcoming conference is all about shifting perspectives—whether it’s how we look at math or how we use technology to get students talking to each other instead of just their devices.

Check out these deep dives into classroom culture and critical thinking:

📐 Using Axiomatic Themes to Reframe the Math Classroom
"When am I going to use this?" From students who struggle with math, this question should be viewed as a plea to understand the relevancy to their lives. As teachers, we too often see this question as a challenge or an escape from something we think of as deeply relevant, if not in content, then in skills. This presentation will show one method of increasing student connection to the content by assigning themes to sets of content and using that as a lens to view the math we are doing together.

🗣️ Face to Face, Not Screen to Screen: Using AI to Structure Academic Controversy
Get students talking face to face with structured academic controversy. Come see how you can tackle hard discussions in class in a step by step scaffolded way for students. Students learn to see both sides of an issue. And see how AI can help prep students for in person discussion.

The Teacher Fellows are back with even more insights for ! 🚀 Whether you want to master your digital workflow or transform your physical classroom environment without burning out, these two sessions are designed for you.

Here is what we have lined up next:

✨ Use Gemini to Make the Most of Your Google Tools
Have you ever wondered what more you could do with your work in Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets? Have you ever wanted to create or automate a complex project but had no clue how to do it? If either answer is “yes”, Gemini can save the day! See examples of how Google’s AI can boost your Google creations, learn some practical tips for how to get started, and begin making your Googliest ideas come to life.

⚡ Engagement Made Easy: Active Learning & Classroom Transformations
Teachers are constantly asked to do more — but engagement doesn’t have to mean exhaustion. This session provides practical, manageable ways to integrate active learning, engagement structures, and occasional room transformations to boost student investment and achievement. Participants will leave with concrete strategies, templates, and ideas that can be implemented the very next day — no major budget or prep required.

Big news! The Teacher Fellows are taking the stage at UCET 2026, and we’re bringing some serious classroom heat to the conference floor. 🔥

Whether you're looking to revolutionize your tech stack or dive deep into data-driven teaching, we’ve got a seat saved for you. Here’s a sneak peek at our first two sessions:

🧪 AI Lab: Where Imagination Meets Innovation
You already use ChatGPT, now it’s time to level up your co-designing expertise! This high-energy, hands-on session is for educators who know the basics of lesson planning with ChatGPT and are ready to design highly engaging learning experiences. You’ll see bold, themed lesson examples from multiple content areas—then jump into guided “lab experiments” where you refine prompts, push beyond surface-level output, and design immersive, standards-aligned learning experiences of your own.

📊 Student Engagement and Action Research
This will be an overview of how the research in 'Reimagining Student Engagement' by Amy Berry has led to a change in practice in 3 different contexts; From a district support lens via an academy, a coaching lens via 1-on-1 support, and from a classroom teacher lens. We will also talk about ways in which to implement and possible roadblocks to implementation.
