The Christmas Box International We defend children who are abused, neglected, trafficked, or facing homelessness.

Currently there are three Christmas Box Houses in Utah: Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Moab. These 365 days-a-year facilities serve as emergency shelters for children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. Christmas Box Rooms, including one located in Utah County, are resource centers for foster families and teens transitioning into adult living. In addition, Christmas Box International supports several schools and orphanages in countries throughout the world, including: India, Peru, Taiwan, Africa, Haiti and The Philippines.

Sometimes making a difference looks like a $25 gift card.

One of Project Elf’s greatest needs is $25 Walmart gift cards. These cards are given to parents working with the Division of Child and Family Services, empowering them to shop for the gifts their own children want and need.

Each participating family receives two $25 gift cards per child or teen.

That means your $25 donation is more than a gift card. It gives a parent the opportunity to choose something specifically for their child and helps create a Christmas morning that feels personal.

Want to help stock the Christmas Box Houses? Here are a few things we could use!

The things you and your kids use every day are the same things we need for the children staying at the Christmas Box.

Why does Project Elf ask for new, unwrapped gifts?

There’s an important reason.

Children can arrive at a Christmas Box House throughout December, and sometimes a child may move to a new placement before Christmas arrives.

Keeping donated gifts unwrapped allows our staff to thoughtfully select gifts for each child. If a child moves, those gifts can travel with them so their new caregiver can wrap them and make sure they’re waiting on Christmas morning.

It’s one small detail in Project Elf, but an important one: helping make sure no child feels forgotten or different.

When shopping for Project Elf this year, please remember: all donated items should be new and unwrapped.

It’s Project Elf season!

Each year, The Christmas Box International works alongside our generous community to help make Christmas morning brighter for children, teens and young adults who have experienced abuse, neglect or homelessness.

Through Project Elf, individuals, families, businesses and community groups come together to fill Santa’s sleigh with gifts and resources for the children we serve.

A gift may seem like a small thing. But for a child navigating an incredibly difficult season, it can be a reminder that they are seen, valued and remembered.

There are many ways to be part of Project Elf this year, from purchasing a gift from our wish list to donating a gift card or organizing a donation drive of your own.

Some children enter emergency care with little more than the clothes they are wearing.

Behind that reality is a child experiencing a moment of enormous change—often following abuse, neglect, trafficking or homelessness.

National Child Awareness Month asks us to pay attention to the challenges children and young people face and to recognize the responsibility we share in creating communities where they can feel safe, supported and valued.

Awareness matters because when a community understands the need, it can help become part of the response.

National Child Awareness Month is an opportunity to remember that childhood should be a time of safety, stability and belonging.

But for children experiencing abuse, neglect, trafficking or homelessness, that sense of safety can be disrupted far too soon.

A safe childhood creates space for the things every child deserves—the freedom to learn, play, grow, build relationships and imagine what their future might hold.

Because every child deserves more than having their immediate needs met.

Every child deserves the chance to simply be a child.
