People frequently reach out to us asking about Utah-based providers or services that are trauma-informed. While we do not endorse any provider or service, we would like to have a list that we can share when people ask...and we need YOUR help to generate the list.

We have had questions about everything from yoga instructors to dentists, so we are hoping for a variety of services. Comment with information about a service or provider that you have worked with that you experienced as trauma-informed (feel free to tag them, if you would like). We would also love to know where in Utah the provider or service can be found, what they offer, and we would be especially grateful if you want to share anything about your experience.

One of the foundational concepts we teach when we work with organizations is that our stress responses are not chosen. In order to ensure our survival, our brains automatically respond to threats our physical and emotional safety. FIGHT, FLIGHT, and FREEZE are normal responses to abnormal circumstances. If I detect something that is a threat to my survival, I want my brain to shift into survival mode to keep me safe.

It is also important to remember that there is no "right" way to respond to a threat. Sometimes we hear people judge their own, or others', responses, but because the decision-making part of the brain goes offline during a stress response, there is no choosing involved.

The reason we teach this information is because if we can learn to understand how our own stress responses look, as well as how the stress responses of others may look, we are better equipped to respond in ways that create and maintain safety for ourselves and others in our environments and interactions.

Are you wanting to incorporate principles of a trauma-informed approach into your organization? Perhaps you would like to maintain the progress you have already made? Or, maybe you are hoping to reignite energy around an initiative that you began years ago.

Trauma-Informed Utah's Train-the-Trainer Workshop provides an opportunity for an organization to build capacity for a sustainable, in-house training program. We have limited space available for our upcoming workshop (April 20-22 in the SLC area). Review cost, requirements, and apply by visiting https://forms.gle/QoUdQeALrtWsYtoN8.

We had a GREAT time participating in the Utah Advocacy Coalition 's March 2026 People Pitch event yesterday. Not only were we excited to share more about our work, it was wonderful to be in a shared space with so many other folks who are showing up to help members of our community. It was an honor to share the stage with Operation Literacy and Ability Inclusion Services. A special thanks to John Ivie for coaching us on our messaging and being a gracious supporter and friend of Trauma-Informed Utah.

There is violence and harm happening in every community. Experiencing or witnessing violence and harm may result in trauma.

This is a friendly reminder from the team at Trauma-Informed Utah that it is important to take care of ourselves. We love using these questions as a starting point:
1. How am I feeling today?
2. What is my intention for today?
3. What does support look like for me?

Take care of yourself. 🧡

Trauma-Informed Utah is gearing up for the 2026 legislative session. Members of our team attended Utah Nonprofits Association 's official kickoff event today at the state capital and were inspired by comments from Jill Bennett, Loggins Merrill, Emily Bell McCormick, and Rebecca Chavez-Houck. The event served as a timely reminder of the vital role Utah's nonprofits play in supporting our communities and families. TIU is honored to serve the people of Utah. With Keri Jones-Fonnesbeck.

Trauma-Informed Utah has been hard at work, supporting trauma-informed efforts from St. George to Logan! A quick snapshot of our work over the last few months shows us building partnerships at events such as Healing Generations and the opening of Primary Children's Behavioral Health Center. Through our Train the Trainer Program, we have helped develop trainers throughout Utah. We have welcomed and been enriched by new board members and staff, and we are eager to continue our mission toward making Utah a trauma-informed state.

Trauma-informed organizations understand and acknowledge that there are historic, systemic, and societal factors that have caused trauma. A trauma-informed approach also recognizes that culture, history, and identity can be a source of healing and resilience.
