The mission of the Salt Lake Climbers Alliance is to engage as an advocate to protect outdoor climbing access and as a steward to maintain sustainable climbing resources in the Wasatch and surrounding regions. The Salt Lake Climbers Alliance is Utah’s leading voice for climbing access and stewardship: uniting, educating, and inspiring climbers of all disciplines to serve their local climbing community since 2002.

The 13th Annual Climbing Festival is debuting our first‑ever Cecret Challenge — your chance to test your Wasatch knowledge while exploring the crags, trails, and hidden corners around the Alta. And yes, you can win amazing prizes from Black Diamond Salt Lake City La Sportiva Salt Lake City Retail Store Snowpine Lodge and Converge Physical Therapy

Come with me (Lexi) as I remain out of breath, sweaty, and wandering the exact trails where the Cecret Challenge will take place to give you a sneak peek of what’s coming.

This year’s challenge: Bag Your Bolts.

Your mission is simple — collect as many golden SLCA bolts as you can between 10:30 AM and 5:00 PM using clues that lead you to each hiding spot.

The person who bags the most bolts wins a prize pack from our sponsors, and the top three bolt‑finders will get first pick at the end of the day.

What to know:
👉You must have a festival ticket to receive the clue sheet on the morning of August 22.
👉Check in at Goldminer’s Daughter before heading out (there is coffee, breakfast and a climbing focused warm up before the challenge starts).
👉You can hike, run, bike, or climb your way to the bolts — you have until 5:00 PM.
👉Around 100 bolts will be hidden.
Prize packs range from $500–$650 in retail value (huge thank‑you to our sponsors).

This challenge is a fun way to test your Wasatch knowledge, spend a full day outside, and push yourself on the surrounding terrain. Your ticket is both your entry to “Bag your Bolts” and a direct donation to stewardship and advocacy for outdoor climbing areas throughout the Wasatch.

How lucky are we to call the Wasatch home?
To be able to escape to places that feel so remote but are only a two hour drive away?
To have so many opportunities for climbing in such unique places?

Access to these places is never guaranteed and the maintenance required to keep these places climbable is not a free task. Every bolt you clip or anchor you utilize will need to be replaced, trails will need to be maintained, and we will always need to advocate for the places we love to climb.

What a weekend for climbing nationwide.

Huge thanks to everyone who came together for the Future of Fixed Anchors x New Router Symposium. Over 50 people representing 10 different LCOs across 14 states, joined Salt Lake Climbers Alliance and Access Fund for two packed days of learning, community, and discussion about the future of route development.

From deep‑dive presentations on fixed‑anchor standards to thoughtful discussion around new routing practices, our speakers brought clarity, history, and vision to one of the most important topics in climbing stewardship.

Conference Highlights:
- Expert insights on modern fixed‑anchor best practices
- Conversations about sustainable new routing
- Community Q&A with route developers, land managers, and stewards
- A full room of climbers committed to keeping our crags sustainable

Events like this remind us why the climbing community is so strong. We show up, we learn, and we take care of the places we love.

The Alpenbock Film Premiere last week was one for the books. Nearly 300 people packed INDUSTRY SLC to celebrate the legacy of the Alpenbock Club — a story of community, grit, and climbing history finally brought to the big screen.

Huge thank you to our producers Jenny Wilson, Julia Geisler, and Sandra Salvas, and director Simon Fraser and his team at for bringing this project to life and honoring the roots of Wasatch climbing.

From original Alpenbock members to new climbers discovering this history for the first time, the energy in the room was unreal — thanks to for the space! Thank you to everyone who showed up, shared stories, and helped make this premiere a milestone for our community.
