Across the West, sagebrush country faces a growing cycle of wildfire, invasive annual grasses and long-term habitat loss. New research from TNC’s Moses Coulee Preserves in Washington helps show why post-fire restoration and early action against invasives are so important for sagebrush-dependent wildlife.

The challenge is familiar across the broader Sagebrush Sea–including here in Utah.

In places like TNC’s Moses Coulee Preserves, part of one of the largest intact shrub‑steppe landscapes left in the state, we are learning that change is accelerating fast.

We’re grateful to Expedia for its support through the Expedia Trails Fund, including a major investment in the Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve in Utah.

At the preserve, the boardwalk will be rebuilt—ensuring visitors can continue to experience this vital wetland for years to come. Expedia’s support will also help care for special places across the U.S., including trail improvements at Cascade Head Preserve in Oregon to protect sensitive habitat and create a safer visitor experience, and expanded access at Pembroke Savanna Preserve in Illinois, welcoming more people to explore this culturally rich landscape.

Together, we’re helping care for these places so they can be explored and protected for generations to come.
