Last month, our Central 9th Youth Council proudly hosted an amazing community event, United We Thrive: One Heart, Many Roots, dedicated to fostering connection and celebrating the diversity within the Central 9th Corridor of SLC.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who attended, participated in, and supported the success of this incredible event. Your presence and energy helped our Youth Council create a joyful, vibrant day of celebration and connection.

This unforgettable day wouldn’t have been possible without each and every one of you. Thank you! ♥️

This Weekend our Central 9th Youth Council is hosting their big summer event - United We Thrive: One Heart, Many Roots!!!!!

This event is FREE and open to all!

Join us at the East Events Area in Liberty Park on Saturday July 12th from 4-7pm for this celebration unity and day of culture sharing!

We invite you, your friends and family, to a free community event at Liberty Park. This event is organized by youth from Glendale Middle and East High School. Come celebrate with a fun-filled evening of entertainment, food, and community. Share with friends and let us know what you’re most excited for!

Our Central 9th Youth Council has been working hard these past few months planning United We Thrive: One Heart, Many Roots. This free event intends to unite our community to celebrate the many cultures and differences that make Salt Lake City and the Central 9th area so awesome. We hope to see you there!!!

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is on October 26th from 10a.m. - 2p.m. at the Pioneer Precinct in Salt Lake City. October is National Substance Abuse Prevention Month. Let’s come together to raise awareness about the importance of prevention and support. This month is a time to highlight prevention efforts, as a launchpad for the whole year. We want to recognize a member of our community, Mrs. Hiehiapo, for all that she does for the young people in the Central 9th corridor.

Saineha Hiehiapo, a teacher at Glendale Middle School, facilitated a full day of recruitment presentations to 8th grade students at Glendale from the coalition for our youth council. Saineha was warm and friendly and showed so much care for her students. She also gave a great introduction of the youth council and really encouraged her students to listen carefully and complete applications. As a result, we received over 30 applications for this year’s youth council. We could not have done this without Saineha’s enthusiasm and support.

The Central 9th Youth Council was recognized by the Salt Lake City School District Board at their meeting last week! Our group of 8th-10th graders were the first Youth Council to be recognized by the board, and they were so honored to be there. A few of them even volunteered to speak about all that they have learned throughout the 223-2024 cycle. We wanted to thank for recognizing this group of young people and all that they have done to support their community! We are so proud of this Youth Council. Thank you for supporting youth voices!
