Wildlife biologists will begin aerial mule deer surveys soon in the Texas Panhandle. Our planned start date is January 17, 2023. We will be starting in the northern panhandle and working our way south. Surveys will be flown in a gray and yellow R66 helicopter with yellow lettering - tail number N766WA. Please see below for planned transects/areas we will be flying.

Data gathered from these surveys allows TPWD to come up with a mule deer population estimate, which is then used to determine hunting seasons, bag limits and potential research needs.
