تعود فكرة إنشاء هذه المؤسسة الدولية الغير ربحية لمفهوم الإقتراض التشاركي التعاوني بين الناس والذي زاد إنتشاراً منذ قرون طويلة ،وتم تأطير وتوحيد أنشطته الأساسية الذي أنبثقت من مبدأ التكافل بين العاملين وموظفي الأجور منذ مئات السنين حينما اشترك بالمال مجموعة من المزارعون فيما بينهم ليتعاونوا في تملك قطعة ارض زراعية لاستصلاحها وزراعتها وجني المال من محصولها بشكل متساو لكل مشترك في كل موسم حصاد كمساهمة مشتركة بين كل طرف ، وجاءت فكرة القرعة لتحدد بالتراضي من سيكون الأول الذي سيحصل على ارباح محصول الموسم بمفرده حتى حلول دور الاخر في الموسم القادم ضمن دائرة مغلقة وهكذا ،، وبعد نجاح هذه المجموعة إنتشر بين الناس هذا المقترح التعاوني ولقي استحساناً وخرج من نطاق القرية إلى كافة أصقاع المعمورة حتى باتت الفكرة واقعاً ملموسا وعرفاً متداولاً بين كافة البشر. وقد قامت بتفعيلها العديد من مؤسسات الدول وبعض القطاعات المالية والمجتمعية والخيرية وأدرجت كأحد الأنشطة التعاونية في بعض المنظمات والمجمعات والمحافل غير الدينية مثل الروتاري و والليونز وبنوك المجتمع التعاونية ومؤسسات الإقراض الصغرى معدومة الفائدة وغيرها …

يمكن لكل منتسب/ة أو مشترك/ة الإنضمام المجاني بدون الحاجة للبحث عن مجموعة يعرفها ويثق بها أو يعمل معها عن قرب حتى يضمن إلتزام كل فرد بسداد حصته من القرض أو أن يضطر لأن يخضع لمحدودية مبلغ القرض ، بل يمكن لكل فرد سواء كان موظفاً على رأس العمل أو متقاعداً أن ينضم لهذا البرنامج وأن يختار ما يناسب حاجته وإمكانية سداده طالما لديه حساباً بنكياً يحتوي على دخلا معينا بشكل دائم ومنتظم.
