TY PAID THE PRICE!!!!

(WARNING - this it what happens when you try to rehome your Bengal without us!)

We’ve been telling you about Ty in Oakland for the last few months and something pretty incredible happened today.

A breeder who is friends with this rescue happened to see one specific photo of him. She alerted our team that she knew EXACTLY who he was.

Our team spoke with Ty’s original breeder (retired now) and found out what had happened to him (there were a lot of pieces to put together).

Ty’s name is actually Tai Lung (for the Kung Fu Panda character). He isn’t four either - he is EIGHT. Tai was a much beloved cattery cat responsible for making a long line of beautiful, healthy, and happy Bengals. His own journey was followed by a HUGE amount of social media fans.

When it was time for Tai to retire - he was neutered and placed in a loving home.

That is - until the owner got a dog, and he started spraying (clearly, he didn’t want a dog). The owner reached out to the breeder for help - received it - and then the cattery never heard back. They assumed that the issue was resolved.

It wasn’t.

In March we got a call from East Bay SPCA telling us they had a TERRIFIED Bengal who needed out. He was in rough shape and suffered from terrible gastrointestinal issues. Our amazing foster in the area, immediately got in her car to get him.

Since then we’ve spent ~$1,500.00 to get him patched up and to soothe his frayed nerves and to teach him that not ALL humans are awful. He’s starting to believe us.

We found out that the person who got him from the breeder, made the decision to rehome him. WITHOUT contacting his breeder who was actively trying to help him, and WOULD have taken him back.

Heartbreakingly, the person he was re-homed to -- neglected and abused him.

When Tai landed himself at Hope for Porterville Cats - he was in terrible shape. They did everything that they could. They transferred him to East Bay SPCA and eventually he was transferred to us.

We aren’t sure how long he was at his second home, but when the breeder showed us photos of what he USED to look like - we didn’t recognize him at all.

Today Tai is thriving in his foster home. It has taken months of around-the-clock effort from his foster and our team, to repair the damage that was done to him.

Tai’s hellish journey didn’t need to happen!

-The breeder would have taken him back.
-Bengal Rescue would have taken him (obviously we did).

If you are struggling with your cat and thinking of rehoming them - please think about what happened to Tai.

We have so many resources to help owners vet potential adoption candidates! It’s all over our website:
https://bengalrescue.org/adopt/adoption-process/

• VET your candidates.
• Do a background check (like we do).
• Have them fill out a formal application.
• Do a house visit (or Zoom meeting).
• CHECK REFERENCES (Veterinarian, Landlord).
• Charge a fee of at least $200.00
• Have them sign a contract agreeing to return the cat to you if things aren’t working out.

Whatever you do - remember:

YOU made a commitment to your cat. It’s YOUR job to protect them!

By the way - Tai is available for adoption right now. If his story moves you and you think he would be happy forever in your arms, please fill out our adoption application: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRUT/Cat

So many people love the wild look and active / curious nature of the Bengal cat breed. But looks aren’t everything! Unfortunately, not EVERYONE can handle how challenging Bengals can be.

🎤 The Pop Star / Opera Singer Edition 🎤

Do you like LOUD screaming?

Do you enjoy being woken up by that in the middle of the night?

No???

😹 Perhaps a Bengal isn’t the right breed for you. 😹

Not ALL Bengals are loud. But the loud ones - they are LOUD. They literally SCREAM! For fun!

Over the years we’ve had three scenarios:

Scenario One.

Bengals who scream for fun, and their owners don’t mind. These are cats that have plenty of stimulation, Catification, and daily / frequent play time. In the end, they’re screamers. They love it!

Scenario Two.

Bengals who scream, the family is sick of it, so they surrender to us. Yet in their foster home - they DON’T scream. Which tells us that there was something going wrong in the home. Usually it’s due to lack of stimulation. Bengals are EXTRA. Most people don’t realize that what a person “thinks” is enough play - it isn’t even close.

Scenario Three.

Bengals who don’t scream. At all. We get MANY of those.

This series is intended to share the good, the bad, and the mayhem of being owned by a Bengal.

Be prepared - for anything!

This one is a heartbreaker.

Last week we were URGENTLY contacted by Texarkana Animal League (Texarkana, TX).

Harvey, a Bengal boy was pulled from a HOUSE OF HORRORS. He, along with two other domestic cats were the soul survivors.

The house was FILTHY and filled with deceased animals (cats, lizards and snakes!!). Everyone was completely malnourished and Animal Control determined that they died of starvation.

The owner was arrested, and the living cats who remained were immediately attended to.

At that particular moment, we had no foster to help Harvey. We began to draft a post to see if we could find someone - quickly. The problem - we knew this cat would be shut down and would be in need of lengthy rehabilitation. He would need a QUIET and PATIENT foster home who had experience with traumatized and shut down cats.

Just before we went to post looking for a foster - we had a thought.

We have a VERY talented foster home in Texas located two hours away. This foster LOVES to help cats that are emotionally traumatized and shut down. They have OODLES of experience with the breed, including but not limited to Early Generation Bengals.

We took a risk. We asked our foster if they might know of anyone nearby who could help this boy who we’re currently calling Harvey.

The foster said: “Yes! We will help!!”

So today, Harvey got his freedom ride and he’s already settling in.

Yes he’s scared. He’s seen horrors that none of us can even begin to imagine.

Starting now - he’ll never have to worry about lack of resources, fear, and danger. This boy is safe and he is already loved, by all of us.

We all know that the comfort of other felines will be key to his success. Luckily there are other Bengals in the home who will be able to show him just how safe he is.

We expect it’s going to be a VERY long road of rehabilitation for Harvey - but we’re here for it. We are all envisioning the day when he decides to walk through the middle of a room with his tail proudly held up in the air.

Welcome to Bengal Rescue, Harvey! Here’s to your beautiful future!!

🇺🇸 MEMORIAL DAY 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to remember.

Today we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is the reason we enjoy so many of the freedoms we often take for granted.

At Bengal Rescue, Memorial Day is also a reminder of those we have loved and lost closer to home.

Many of us are also thinking about the Bengals who once filled our lives with laughter, chaos, mischief, and unconditional love.

The cat who greeted us at the door.
The cat who stole our spot in bed.
The cat who talked back.
The cat who stayed by our side through life's most difficult moments.

The years we spend with them never feel long enough.

Though they may no longer be beside us, their stories continue to shape who we are and their legacy continues to help others.

Their love remains woven into our lives, our homes, and the work we do every day.

We also remember the members of our rescue community who are no longer with us—the volunteers, fosters, adopters, supporters, friends, and family members whose compassion helped save lives and build something larger than themselves.

Whether your thoughts today are with a fallen service member, a beloved family member, a treasured friend, or a cherished Bengal who is deeply missed, know that you are not alone.

Some lives leave an imprint that time cannot erase.

Today, we remember them all.

❤️🤍💙

If you feel comfortable, we'd love to see photos of the Bengals that you are remembering today. Share them in the comments so we can honor them together.

Today we hope you remember those who left too soon - who are forever in our hearts.

Courtesy post we do not have this cat; Contact owner below:

San Diego, CA

From the owner:

I have a beautiful girl that needs a home. Her name is Aleah. She is 11yrs old, all shots, spayed.

She has lived with her brother all of her life, whom is also a bengal (male) and a small dog.

I am not sure how she will be with other cats as my current bengal has displayed some aggressive behavior and it's totally freaked her out and not fair to her.

I think she would do best as the only pet. She gets along fine with people/kids.

Very social, loves to play. Talks a lot. (that's one thing to note about her breed)

She is extremely smart and loving.

She knows many commands and is very playful. She is perfect in every way. Very affectionate. Just wants to be with someone.

No issues. No complaints. Please only series inquires contact me if interested. Thank you.

We love our followers - but we aren't staffed! We aren't funded to have employees.

Because of this - we don't have time to check every single social media platform with people asking us to "message me."

Sorry - we can't. We have a website and a ton of helpful articles on it also. www.bengalrescue.org

We'd love to help you find your love match but you need to start by filling out our application.

Today, someone asked if our cats were free. Last we checked - we have massive bills for every cat we place... No cat should ever be free.

Random questions can go to [email protected]

If you are seriously interested, fill out our application:

Meet BRUNO!!! ❤️

✔ Good with cat-friendly cats
✔ No experience with young children
✔ Terrified of dogs (he’s scared and hisses)

Bruno is a 2-year-old Bengal who was found wandering the streets of Tucson intact, with no owner ever coming forward to claim him. Their loss… because this boy is an absolute GEM. ✨

Bruno is playful, affectionate, ridiculously chatty, and gets along with basically everyone. He loves following his people around, hanging out with his housemates, and having full conversations with you all day long. 😹

He’s now neutered, vaccinated, FeLV/FIV negative, and has perfect litter box manners.

Honestly? Bruno may just be the perfect “starter Bengal” for someone new to the breed. ❤️

Meet BRUNO!!!

-Good with cat-friendly cats
-Hasn’t been around young children
-Terrified of dogs (he’s scared and he hisses)

Bruno is a 2 year old boy who was found wandering the streets of Tucson, AZ - INTACT. We’ve spent weeks trying to find his family, and have filed “found reports” with animal control, but no one has come forward to claim him.

He is currently living in a wonderful and experienced foster home, and he’s now ready for his forever family.

This guy is an absolute HOOT. Talk about PURR-sonality! He has such a warm and happy demeanor about him. We don’t know why anyone would have let Bruno go. He’s truly a unicorn.

Bruno literally gets along with EVERYONE. While he’s definitely playful, he isn’t a handful. He’s happy to wander the house and follow his people and fellow housemates around. He’s such a darling boy.

Now we will tell you - that if you don’t like chatty cats, Bruno is definitely NOT your guy. He is so conversational!!! We absolutely love that about him.

Bruno is neutered now, and he’s up to date on his vaccinations. He has tested negative for FeLV / FIV and has perfect litter box skills.

We wish we had more information about his background… But we know enough now to tell you that Bruno is an absolute sweetheart!!

If you haven’t had a Bengal before, Bruno just might be your perfect “starter” cat!

If you’re interested in adopting Bruno, please fill out our Adoption Application: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRUT/Cat

A Day in the Life at Bengal Rescue

This morning we were contacted by Texarkana Animal League in Texarkana, Texas.

They had an URGENT case with a Bengal Cat who had been living with a hoarder.

This Bengal was starved, neglected, and one of the few survivors in the house. We’ll not go into more detail right now, but it’s awful.

Texarkana Animal League reached out to us specifically to take him into our care. We’re grateful.

We don’t like sharing horror stories. But we do think that it’s important for you to know - we’d never turn away from a cat like this in such desperate need.

The other part of the story you wouldn’t know - we thought was important to share. It is how we find out about a cat in need, and how we deploy to rehabilitate them.

*** We have THREE levels of volunteers ***

1) Social Media: This boy was reported to us on Social Media. Our Social Media team (all volunteers) aren’t the same people who handle intake and care. One person is part of the intake / care but we’re flooded daily with demands “take my cat” or shelters who are or aren’t in our service area (the Western 12 States).

2) Adoptions / Intake Team: The social media volunteer on our team was horrified and asked the rescue to contact us via email. This Morning the team who had him in TX did so. None of us would stop until we found a foster. Message received.

3) Management: Our Management KNEW exactly who would be able to handle an EXTREMELY traumatized cat - IN Texas - who needs all the time in the world to re-bounce. We found them! They said YES.

Note: this is about INTAKE. Level 4 is our Fosters who are absolutely NEXT LEVEL!!!

We don’t have this boy tonight (he’s safe at a foster home) but we are working on the plans to transfer him to Bengal Rescue. We’ve received the verbal confirmation that he is joining us - and our TALENTED and loving foster is lined up.

We’ll keep you posted on his progress. We’re honored to have the opportunity to give this boy a new life.

Tonight’s post is simply to show you how we do the work we do - and let you know HOW many people it takes to save one cat. And we're all volunteers! No one is paid and we just do the best we can - managing families and jobs - to save one at a time.

We’ll keep you updated - we can’t wait to help this boy who will soon learn that NOT all humans are awful!

Many thanks for your support!
