Join us at SLAQC in creating welcoming and supportive spaces where all individuals can climb, connect, and thrive.

We’re looking for:
Treasurer & Governance Director (Board Member/Volunteer)
Programs Manager (Contractor/1099)

The Treasurer & Governance Director is one of the most important open roles in SLAQC’s next chapter. This is a voting seat on our Board of Directors, pairing hands-on financial management with the compliance work that keeps a growing nonprofit healthy and accountable to our community, and to the funders who back our mission.

Financial & Compliance Duties:
Manages all bookkeeping, banking, and monthly reconciliations
Tracks cash flow, processes expenditures and contractor payments, and manages the organization’s debit cards
Drafts, tracks, and adjusts the annual operating budget under board direction
Coordinates annual state and federal tax filings
Manages timely renewal of insurance policies
Ensures ongoing compliance with non-profit corporate codes and bylaws

As a Board Member, you’ll also:
Hold a voting seat on SLAQC’s Board of Directors
Attend and actively participate in monthly board meetings currently the 4th Monday of each month, 6:00 PM, held virtually. Consistent attendance is a core expectation of this role.
Uphold the three fiduciary duties expected of nonprofit directors: duty of care (exercising the same care a reasonably prudent person would in a similar role), duty of loyalty (acting in good faith in SLAQC’s best interest), and duty of obedience (acting within SLAQC’s mission and purpose)
Serve a 4-year term (renewable), per SLAQC’s bylaws

Preferred background: Professional or academic background in accounting, corporate finance, or non-profit compliance; MPA student or equivalent strongly preferred; proficiency with accounting tools preferred. Prior board experience is a plus, not a requirement; we’ll onboard the right person into nonprofit governance practice.

Time commitment: ~6 hours per month, including the required monthly board meeting.

Compensation: This is an uncompensated, volunteer board

SLAQC is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and our operating board holds the formal roles that keep this homespace running — from strategy and fundraising to building the outdoor programming that gets our community climbing together.

Maddi Bistrong (she/her)
BOARD MEMBER & DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

Since moving to Utah to teach adaptive skiing at the National Ability Center, Maddi has embraced the year-round adventure the Wasatch offers. She spends her free time climbing rock, ice, and alpine and cares deeply about building inclusive, affirming spaces in the outdoors. After completing the AMGA LGBTQIA2S+ affinity program, she’s now pursuing her SPI to help create welcoming pathways for our community to learn outdoor climbing skills. When she’s not climbing, Maddi can be found mountain biking, trail running, or splitboarding around the Wasatch...and playing fetch with her cat!

Adam is a Utah local and lover of the outdoors ever since they can remember. They started climbing about 8 years ago and fell in love with the community. They recently became SPI and WFR certified in order to help bridge the gap between indoor and outdoor climbing for the SLAQC community by providing instruction and mentorship opportunities. When they aren’t climbing, you can find them out hiking or skiing the Wasatch, dirt biking in the west desert, wrenching on a car, or fixing small electronics.

🌞 It's time to cool off from the sun! 🏖️

Join SLAQC on Thursday, July 23 as we celebrate the summer by the pool and grilling some food! Location will be sent after registration (link in our bio) but will be near South Salt Lake/Sugar House. Here are some important details to note:

📝 Festivities begin at 6:00PM and wrap up at 9:00PM
🥤 This is a sober event; also no glass is allowed on site
🐕️ ❌️ No dogs, please!
🚗 There is parking available on site and nearby streets, but we encourage carpooling!
😎 There is shade and an indoor space including a private restroom
🍔 To keep it simple, we'll provide the burgers/dogs etc., including options for dietary restrictions. If you want to contribute feel free to bring a non-alcoholic beverage or dessert!

We're excited to be hosting a free sport climbing meetup at the International Climbers' Festival in Lander, Wyoming on July 10! All skill levels are welcome, and you don't even need a festival ticket to participate.

🌈 GET READY FOR SOME SUMMER VIBES, AND SUMMER CLIMBS! 🌞

We're back with another schedule release, this time with some really cool outdoor opportunities, social events, and collabs! Here's what we have in store for you the next few months:

🏔️ On July 10, SLAQC will be hosting a meetup at the International Climbers' Festival in Lander, Wyoming! This will be a free sport climbing meet-up, no festival ticket required. We will be meeting at the Wapiti Wall crag at 8 a.m., meet in City Park at 7:30 a.m. if you want to carpool!

🏖️ Keep an eye out for the pool party and cookout on July 23! It will be held at a private pool near Sugarhouse/South Salt Lake. It will be a sober event, and we will have veg and gluten-free options. More details to come soon!

🧗‍♀️ There will be an affinity group collab climb night on August 13, which will also include a fundraiser! Details to come!
