Last night, the Knights of Utah found themselves recognized by the Knights of Columbus for their efforts this past fraternal year. Utah was recognized for the following categories:

Pinnacle- Membership Growth
Top Grand Knight
Insurance Recruitment

These awards represent the most prestigious recognitions bestowed by the Order for the State of Utah. Utah could be thought of as an unlikely winner for these categories. This achievement is due to the hard work of our Past State Deputy Frank Carmona, our State Council, District Deputies, Grand Knights and Councils, for the protection of our families, the wellbeing of our Mother Church, and for the glory of God.

A Fourth of July message from our State Deputy, Doug Shane.

As we gather with our families and communities to celebrate Independence Day, we do so in a very special moment of our nation’s story. We are approaching the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, a time to reflect on where we have come from, who we are today, and where we are called to go as a people blessed by God.
As Knights of Columbus, we do not align ourselves with any political party. Yet we are deeply woven into the lifeblood of our nation through our steadfast devotion to God, who is the true source of the freedoms and liberties we enjoy, and through our commitment to building stronger communities, strengthening families, and forming our youth in faith and virtue. Our patriotism is not partisan; it is rooted in gratitude to God and in service to our neighbor.
On this Independence Day, we should look back with genuine pride at the major accomplishments of our nation and with profound gratitude for the countless men and women who have built, protected, and defended it, people of every walk of life, including many of our own Brother Knights. We remember those who gave their lives for our country, those who quietly serve in our communities, and those who witness daily to faith, family, and charity. Their sacrifices and witness have helped shape the nation we are blessed to call home.
As we look ahead to the next 250 years, we recognize that our country will face many challenges, some we can already see and others we cannot yet imagine. This is precisely where our commitment to Blessed Michael McGivney’s vision becomes so important. His call for faithful Catholic men to unite in charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism is not only timely; it is essential for the future of our state and our nation.
If we remain true to that vision, the Knights of Columbus in Utah will continue to be a vital force for good, defending the dignity of every human life, supporting strong marriages and families, forming our young people in faith, and building communities where Christ is known and loved. In doing so, we will help ensure that the freedoms we cherish are not only preserved, but rightly ordered toward God and the common good.
I am profoundly proud to be a part of the Knights of Columbus in Utah, and I will do my very best to serve you as we go forward together in this mission.
For today, enjoy this Independence Day, pray with your families, give thanks for our country, and celebrate the blessings we share as Americans and as Catholics. Tomorrow, let us return with renewed energy to the good works we do as Knights, confident that God will use our humble efforts to bless our state, our nation, and future generations.

Our hearts are with the victims of the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela. The Cathedral's Knights of Columbus, Council 602, will be collecting donations after Masses this weekend. Your monetary support will be sent directly to the Archdiocese of Caracas through Caritas Latin America and the Caribbean. The Knights will be accepting cash, check, or digital payments via Venmo.

Please pray for those affected, those who lost their lives, and their loved ones.

The Knights of Columbus congratulates Maria Montserrat “Montse” Alvarado, currently president and chief operating officer of EWTN News, as well as a board member of the Knights of Columbus Charitable Fund, on her appointment by Pope Leo XIV as prefect of the Dicastery for Communication, effective Nov. 1. Join us in praying for Ms. Alvarado as she undertakes this important mission in service to the Church.

Today the Church observes the memorial of the Mexican martyrs, among them six priests who were members of the Knights of Columbus. When the Cristero War broke out 100 years ago, Catholics in Mexico faced increasing persecution and even martyrdom at the hands of the government. In the face of these difficulties, the Knights of Columbus mounted an international campaign to defend the rights of the Church, raising $1 million for a campaign to educate the public and assist those affected.

Pope Pius XI explicitly recognized the Order’s role in his encyclical Iniquis Afflictisque, published Nov. 18, 1926, in response to the persecution in Mexico: “First of all we mention the Knights of Columbus … made up of active and industrious members who, because of their practical lives and open profession of the Faith, as well as by their zeal in assisting the Church, have brought great honor upon themselves.”
