It is truly disheartening to have read a recent social media post from Councilman Apollo Pazell of Copperton. Mr. Pazell sits on the UPD board and SHOULD be an advocate for police officers. Instead he has been an impediment to any real progress at all. For him to recommend ANY first responder to have their salary cut or face a layoff during this pandemic is unacceptable!!
WE are out on the front lines right now putting our own health and the health of our family’s on the line for the citizens of Salt Lake County. Mr. Pazell truly doesn’t understand EVERY administrator is a lifeline to the Unified Police Department. For those of us out working the streets every day and night, we rely upon our administrators so WE can do our jobs safely.
Mr. Pazell you are publicly recommending to cut essential personnel in the middle of a local crisis. YOU are also recommending to take away public safety tools THAT SAVE HUMAN LIVES. Your labeling of such rescue vehicles as “weapons of war” is concerning and truly shows how ignorant you are towards the men and women YOU SHOULD BE WORKING TO PROTECT. You continue to vote AGAINST ALL measures aimed at providing a better and safer working environment. WE BELIEVE IN ACTIONS MR. PAZELL, NOT PATRONIZING WORDS ENTIRELY IN CONTRADICTION TO ALL OF YOUR ACTIONS SINCE JOINING THE UPD BOARD. If you truly value the front line officers of this department start SHOWING IT!!
The Salt Lake Valley Law Enforcement Association prides itself on working with our City and County leaders, our Unified Police Department administration, and the members on the Unified Police Department Board. Our vision is to move forward in building this great department rather than following Mr. Pazell in moving backwards.
