Ausangate Valley Initiative

It is sad to announce that many parts of Peru are experiencing a measles outbreak. Puno and Cusco are particularly affected. All major universities in Cusco are currently closed and classes are being offered virtually. In the Ausangate valley, several children in communities we serve have contracted measles. This is disheartening considering they were vaccinated last June.

The vaccines the ministry of health used were expired. Unfortunately, like the children in the region,most University students have not been vaccinated hence the outbreak!

We will keep all interested informed of any updates.

While doing blood tests in Pachachani we noticed that the green house was still producing vegetables! We congratulate Pachachani for having the only garden that is still producing!

Anemia blood tests in Hanchipacha

We have just finished our anti anemia campaign this past Friday. It will take a week to calculate the results but it appears that only a few children are anemic and a few more are borderline anemic.
After three years of testing and treating children with vitamins and and bone supplements together with our green gardens and providing meat to supplement their diets the children are mostly healthy!

Ananizo is the most remote community we serve. There have been many incidents that have prevent children from going to school. Attendance has dropped to 8 students. Fortunately we can report that all the children are not anemic and are otherwise healthy. We will continue our blood testing next week!
