Fun Fact Friday!
🏨Fannie (F***y) Price was the first teacher in Salmon, Idaho. The log cabin school opened in 1867 with 9 students. It was located behind Odd Fellows.

💕A couple of years later, Fannie married Alexander McNab and they went on to raise their children in Salmon. They all remained in town and are prominent figures in our local history.

🌞Join Dr. Paul Link (Geologist) and Tom Blanchard (Mining Historian) for a fun-filled and educational day. Learn about the land and it's history. We will explore Hughes Creek, Salmon River Canyon site, and Tower Creek.

Do you know why "the bar" is called the bar?

Nope. It is not named after a river bar as some folks may think. Seems appropriate because of the elevated ridge on west/northwest side of the Salmon River. Yet, the bar is an acronym for Brooklyn Area Residents.

Polly Bemis talking to her friend Captain Guleke. Possibly catching up on life since his last delivery down river. She was an expert angler and lived on the Salmon River for many years. She lived an interesting life! Took in laundry for the miners and ran a boarding house.

What can a child’s toy teach us about the past?

This tiny Lemhi Shoshone toy cradleboard, made c. 1890–1905, was more than a toy. Young girls used miniature cradleboards to learn nurturing and caregiving skills through play.

Made with the same care as a full-sized carrier, this piece features a U-shaped wooden frame, buckskin, beadwork, and cotton thread. Collected from the Lemhi Reservation, it offers a glimpse into childhood, cultural traditions, and learning through everyday life.

✨ Come see this cradleboard and other Shoshone artifacts on exhibit at the museum.
