Lemhi County Museum

Lemhi County Museum Lemhi County Historical Society and Museum preserves, interprets, and exhibits the history of Lemhi County.

We have two buildings side by side -204 Main is the River of History Exhibit and Research Center and 210 Main is the primary Lemhi County Museum. The Lemhi County Museum (210 Main Street) will open for the posted hours beginning June 1, 2021. The River of History Exhibit/Visitor Center is open Mondays (10 - 3); Tuesdays (10 - 3); Wednesdays (10 - 3); Thursdays (10 - 3).

Fun Fact Friday! Yay!
Near Birch Creek, you can visit these beehive shaped charcoal kilns. Built in the 1800’s, these kilns processed charcoal for the Viola Mine. More information and driving directions on the Visit Idaho website. Let us know if you go and share your pictures.

Completion of Gilmore & Pittsburgh railroad on May 18, 1910. People gathered in celebration of the rails arriving to Salmon. Unfortunately, the railroad was short lived and abandoned in 1930 but you can still find remnants in the area. Extended hours start after Memorial Day! 11:00-3:00 Monday through Saturday. (Not open Memorial Day) Come on in with your family and friends. We have a couple of new exhibits up 🧡

Projects from past Agaidika Shoshone Cultural Education Day. Students learned directly from the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes and their work became part of the historical record. The day included: beading and leatherwork, Tribal dance, and storytelling. There is still time to participate in and support students in a meaningful learning opportunity.
