Parents, it’s time to talk.

Did you know 9 out of 10 people struggling with addiction started using substances before the age of 18?

That’s not just a statistic — it’s a call to action.

The most dangerous words we can say as caregivers, teachers, or community members are: “Not my kid.”
Because addiction doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t wait. And it often starts earlier than we think.

Talk early. Talk often.
Be present. Be aware.
Let’s work together to protect our youth and break the cycle before it starts.

National Fentanyl Awareness Day is a day of action where hundreds of businesses, nonprofit organizations, schools, and government offices work together to protect Americans from the deadly threat of illicit fentanyl and counterfeit prescription pills.

Nearly half of teens don't know that fentanyl is used to make fake pills sold on social media and in communities across the country. With young people increasingly seeking relief from stress through self-medication, this knowledge gap has devastating consequences. Through collaborative education and action, we can save lives.

Please join the Sallisaw NOW Coalition, along with community partners, today at the Stanley Tubbs Library lawn at 4, for our proclamation to recognize April 29, 2025, as National Fentanyl Awareness Day.

Please take the time to view this short clip over counterfeit pills and have those tough conversations with your kids about the very real dangers of counterfeit pills. If you don't get it directly from your doctor, don't take pills that aren't yours.

A Win for Community Safety

Thanks to a joint effort by the Westville Police Department, Adair County Sheriff’s Office, District 27 Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, and the Stilwell Police Department, a significant amount of suspected fentanyl was removed from our streets.

This is a powerful reminder of the dangers fentanyl poses to our communities. We’re grateful for the dedication and vigilance of our local law enforcement.

Stay aware. Stay safe. Support prevention.
