The Real Men Wear Pinkof the Eastern Shore are male leaders and influencers in the local community are identified and approached to be part of an American Cancer Society Real Men Making Strides campaign. A Real Men Making Strides campaign consists of 12-25 candidates from a community that agree to the following:
• Fundraise alongside other Real Men Making Strides candidates for the Making Stride
s Against Breast Cancer event in that market or for American Cancer Society’s mission in the fight against breast cancer in a community or market that does not have a Making Strides event.
• Fundraising takes place throughout the month of May.
• Candidates commit to wearing pink every day in May.
• Candidates raise awareness through their personal social networks by using platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to talk about the campaign efforts and seek donations. All candidates in a campaign are competing against each other to be named the “Real Man”. A bio is written about each candidate and is shared on the local Real Men Making Strides website (available in April) and via social media. The campaign kicks off with a reveal party in April and the candidates continue to receive support and cultivation from their agreed upon staff lead throughout the duration of the campaign. Candidates fundraise via their website and often conduct third party fundraisers to achieve their personal fundraising goals. The winner is revealed in June, and shared with local media with their bragging rights.
