The Rowan Master Gardener℠ Volunteers have been BUSY ~ re-landscaping the front entrance garden to the newly created Rowan Community Center at the former West End Plaza.

Many locals may remember the beautiful fountain that highlighted this 30' diameter sunny circular space. The fountain had been removed, leaving the resulting garden bed a rainwater collector that had been planted with butterfly bushes (sun) and ajuga (shade). It was not working!

On a 92° morning, Master Gardeners removed the dying plant material, excavated down to install a drainage layer (PermaTill® expanded slate lightweight aggregate), and covered this layer with soil. The next steps are to add a topsoil layer, build a berm to create a slight hill that allows roots to drain any collected rainwater, and add plants and decorative boulders. We are excited to see this coming together!!

The 4H Plant Sale is here!!! 🌿💚🌿

Did you know that blueberries are high in antioxidants and low in calories? If you want to grow your own blueberries or other healthy fruits, then look no further than the 4-H Plant Sale!

Our annual 4-H Plant Sale opened for orders on Tuesday, September 1. We have limited inventory, so the sooner you order the better!

Orders must be in by Thursday, October 29 and pick up is Thursday, November 5. Order by calling 704-216-8970.

Got a TON of indoor plants? Need to get rid of some propagated plants? Want to have more variety? Drop in and bring your healthy plants to our Indoor Houseplant Swap! This is a bring a plant to take a plant event. Staff will be around to talk plants, propagation and plant health. Help grow our local houseplant community, because we all know there's no such thing as "too many plants."

Hey Friends of Rowan Master Gardeners! 🌿💚🌿 We are building a Crevice Garden (a fancy name for a sustainable rock garden) at the new Rowan Community Center! We have been offered some busted-up concrete FOR FREE in China Grove….BUT we have no way to fetch it! Might anyone out there have a large truck that could help us TODAY or TOMORROW (Monday Aug 24 or Tuesday Aug 25)??!! We would SO DEEPLY APPRECIATE!! 🌿💚🌿
