County Council Agenda 1/9/25.To be clear, regarding items 6 and 7 this has nothing to do with temporary licenses being given for events. That is an issue with the liquor licensing board. We also believe those should be distributed fairly and equally where people don't need to be in the "chosen few in crowd."
County Council meeting 1/9/24 6pm125 N. Division Street Salisbury, MD 21801 3rd Floor Room 301

Speak out tomorrow night during the hearing and/or send an email against the dispensing of multiple liquor licenses and possible liquor stores to your community. To be clear, this has nothing to do with temporary licenses being given for events. That is an issue with the liquor licensing board. We also believe those should be distributed fairly and equally.

TODAY WE CELEBRATED NIA!! Nia focuses on setting collective goals and working towards them. It is rooted in the African tradition of communal goals and shared destiny, where the community’s well-being is connected to individual success.
Nia inspires people to pursue goals that not only fulfill personal ambitions but also contribute positively to the community. Nia serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of having a purpose in life that is in harmony with the values of the community. It focuses on building a legacy that positively impacts future generations.

Sunday was Ujamaa! We love this because it is important to support our communities financially. Keeping wealth in our community has not been enough of a priority. The importance of supporting black-owned businesses, understanding the impact of economic decisions on the community, and exploring ways to foster economic empowerment.

So what can you do? Families are encouraged to shop at local black-owned businesses and invest in community ventures. Ujamaa is about developing and sustaining economic models that support the community and provide opportunities for growth and success.

Ultimate Goal- Collective Wealth and Entrepreneurship: The principle of Ujamaa exhibits the importance of sharing economic success to distribute prosperity EQUALLY within the community. It encourages the growth of black entrepreneurs and the support systems that help them thrive.

Day 3 Ujima! Community, is so important, and if each of us took apart in helping our own community, there would be no hunger. There would be no homelessness. There would be no kids without mentors just to name a few. Wicomico County NAACP Branch 7028 will be featured on today's coveeage on Kwanzaa by WMDT. They are highlighting a theme each day.

What a great evening We had meeting several community leaders, entrepreneurs and organizations. President Brooks served as keynote speaker sharing information about community organizing and grant funding available for environmental justice, community advocacy and nonprofits in general. There are so many great plans and ideas that were shared, and all they need is funding. Unfortunately, that has been difficult as many people of color are often blocked from access to funds. That's why we will be continuing to educate about opportunities that are available and overriding gatekeeping attempts.

Thank you to Sentinels of Eastern Shore Health and NAACP members, Maria Payan and Michael Payan for organizing.
