CHM is a non-profit organization committed to providing critical home repair services. Our Christian Mission to help those in need continues to guide our work.

We are a Christian Mission that believes we are called to help one another. Through volunteerism and donations, to date we have successfully helped over 500 families in need in Maryland’s Dorchester, Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester counties. Most of our projects involve building wheelchair ramps, giving back our clients the freedom and independence to remain in their homes. The demand for our services has rapidly increased due to the growing aging population and the number in need. Our clients are identified as living below the poverty level and are referred to us by local agencies. Our partnerships with these agencies helps us to locate those with the greatest need and bring donors and volunteers together to help improve the living situations of our clients.

After more than five months of being unable to leave her home, Linda finally got to enjoy a little time outside, thanks to the CHM Women's Team!

On October 6, our Women's Team was hard at work in Wicomico County, building a new wheelchair ramp for Linda so she could safely get in and out of her home.

One of the best moments of the day came after the ramp was completed, when Linda was finally able to get outside and put her feet in the grass. Something so simple, but something she had been looking forward to for a long time!

A big thank you to the CHM Women's Team for their hard work and for making this special moment possible for Linda!

Getting in and out of her home had become increasingly difficult and painful for Denise, an Army veteran, so a new wheelchair ramp was much needed.

And this was a big one! Before construction could even begin, the Perdue AgriBusiness Senior Leadership team removed Denise’s existing platform and steps. They then got to work building an impressive 56-foot ramp to give her a safer and easier way to enter and leave her home.

Thank you to the Perdue AgriBusiness volunteers for taking on such a big project and giving your time and talents to help Denise. We hope she enjoys the freedom and independence her new ramp provides!

For Tracy, a new ramp means something pretty simple but important: being able to safely get outside on her own again.

Tracy lives in Crisfield with her son and their two rescue dogs, her “girls.” Mobility and balance challenges have made it difficult for her to safely get in and out of her home without help. This new wheelchair ramp will give her more independence, including the chance to head outside and sit with her girls when she wants to.

On 9/18 & 9/19, volunteers from TidalHealth Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Emmanuel Church each spent time working on Tracy’s ramp. Their combined efforts helped give Tracy a safer and more accessible way in and out of her home.

A big thank you to both volunteer teams for giving their time and talents to make this project happen!

A little wind and rain didn’t stop this crew!

Our United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore volunteers recently spent a very wet day building a ramp for Michelle and Clifford at their Wicomico County home. A nor’easter may have been moving through, but you wouldn’t have known it by the team’s actions or attitudes.

Michelle has been dealing with mobility challenges that have made getting around and leaving home difficult. Her new ramp will give her a much safer way to get in and out, especially as the seasons change.

Michelle and Clifford have spent many years caring for others, including fostering children for many years. We’re glad our volunteers had the opportunity to do something for them.

A big thank you to the United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore team for working through the rain and getting the job done!

Thomas and his wife, Beverly, have called Hebron home for many years. With Thomas now facing mobility challenges, Beverly had no safe way to get him in and out of their home.

On September 12, the SU Residence Life team stepped in to help, building a wheelchair ramp that will make it much easier and safer for Thomas to come and go.

Thomas spent more than 30 years working at Wor-Wic and, according to Beverly, has always been someone who was willing to help others. We’re glad we could return a little of that kindness when he needed it.

Thank you to the SU Residence Life volunteers who spent their day making this happen. Because of their hard work, Thomas now has a safe way in and out of his home, and Beverly has one less thing to worry about. That’s a pretty great way to spend a Saturday!

James has spent his whole life in Princess Anne, including 40 years working as a carpenter. When getting in and out of his home safely became a challenge, volunteers from St. Albans were there to help.

On September 12, the team spent the day at James and his wife Lori’s Somerset County home building a new wheelchair ramp that will make coming and going safer and easier.

For someone who spent so many years building things for others, we were glad our St. Albans volunteers could do a little building for James this time. Thank you to the St. Albans team for giving your time and talents to help make James and Lori’s home safer.

On September 11, 10 volunteers from Perdue’s Veterans Associate Resource Group (VARG) came together in Worcester County to build a wheelchair ramp for Idressa.

Idressa is a veteran herself, having served in law enforcement while in the military. After leaving the military in 1988, she continued a life of service through a career in nursing, helping care for others with their daily needs.

Now, Idressa is facing some health and mobility challenges of her own. With stairs becoming difficult and a wheelchair needed during her recovery, having a safe way in and out of her home was especially important.

We’re grateful to the Perdue VARG team for showing up for a fellow veteran and helping give Idressa a safer, easier way to come and go from her home.

We’re looking for a few great people to join our operations team!

We have flexible, part-time openings for Project Managers and Operations Assistants. Project Managers lead and coordinate our projects on-site, while Operations Assistants help support volunteer teams or complete smaller projects, such as installing steps and handrails.

Some hands-on experience is helpful, but we’ll provide the training and support you need to feel confident. Best of all, you choose the projects and dates that work for your schedule!
