You did it.

The first and highest priority parcel of the Save Tuckertown campaign is officially under contract with Three Rivers Land Trust.

This approximately 200-acre property includes more than a mile of riverfrontage along the eastern side of the reservoir and marks an important step forward in conserving these lands for future generations.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported this effort so far. Thank you for believing in the importance of keeping these lands undeveloped and publicly accessible. A special thank you as well to our partners at onX Hunt and MeatEater for helping bring attention to this campaign.

While today is certainly worth celebrating, the work is far from over. The effort to Save Tuckertown continues, and we’ll need your continued support as the next opportunity comes into focus.

This is just the beginning.

TRLT is in the news!

We’re thankful to Iredell Free News for sharing the story of a recently completed conservation project in Iredell County. Along Dutchman Creek, this 62-acre tree nursery has been permanently conserved through a partnership with Three Rivers Land Trust.

With approximately one mile of stream frontage along Dutchman Creek and an unnamed tributary, this project reflects two important parts of our mission: conserving local waters and conserving working family lands.

Thank you to the landowners for their commitment to conservation and to everyone who supports this work!

TRLT Roadside Assistance 🐢

This morning, Three Rivers Land Trust Conservation Lands Manager Katie Stovall spotted two turtle friends trying to cross the road!

This time of year, turtles and many other wildlife species are on the move. If you see one crossing the road, slow down and give them a helping hand by safely moving them in the direction they were already headed.

A little roadside assistance can go a long way for our wild neighbors.

Our team conducted a growing season prescribed burn at The Point in Mocksville, North Carolina.

Unlike dormant-season burns conducted in winter, growing-season burns occur while vegetation is actively growing. This can promote native plant diversity, improve wildlife habitat, and better mimic natural fire cycles.

This burn also marked the first prescribed fire experience for our Stanback interns from Duke University! Although conducted during ongoing drought conditions, we carefully timed the burn ahead of several forecasted rain events to support safe conditions and post-burn recovery.

We primarily used backing fire, a slower-moving fire that burns against the wind. While time-intensive, it provides greater control, lower flame lengths, and effective fuel reduction.

Prescribed fire remains one of the most valuable tools we use to steward and restore healthy landscapes across our region.

We’re thankful for the support of the North Carolina Wildlife Habitat Foundation in the Save Tuckertown campaign!

Conserving this property means conserving public access, water quality, and wildlife habitat that are deeply important to so many people across the region.

Support from partners like NC Wildlife Habitat Foundation helps build momentum for this effort and brings greater awareness to the importance of conserving these lands for future generations.
