IPPS Mentoring Program, Inc

IPPS Mentoring Program, Inc Our immediate goal is to provide 1-on-1 mentors for inmates! Longterm, we look to establish a residential facility, focused on changing lives!

Everyone has/had a dream in their life! Whether it was to be a fireman, baseball or basketball player, a jet pilot, educator, business owner or just a good husband, wife and parent. Somewhere on the way to their dreams, our Mentees were distracted and got caught up in a world they never envisioned for themselves. Whether it is a lack of work ethic, guidance or leadership in their lives, the import

ant thing is that IPPS wants to give them the opportunity to break the cycle that they have been caught up in; we look forward to giving alternatives and hope for their lives to develop into someone who is proud of who they've become...for them, their children, their families...AND the communities in which they live! Help us "Break The Cycle" by making a tax-deductible donation (we are certified by the IRS as a section 501(c)(3) organization) or by volunteering just an hour per week, becoming a Mentor, and a life-changing force in someone's life.

Please contact the Governor and ask him to sign SB 340, the Voting Rights for Ex-Felons bill.

In Maryland , African Americans make up 30% of the population but 65% of those denied the right to vote due to a felony conviction. This is due, to a significant degree, to the much greater incarceration of African Americans for crimes for which whites seldom go to prison.

Please call Governor Hogan at (410) 974-3901. Tell the person answering that you want the Governor to sign SB 340.

It takes about 2 minutes to respond, but will make a HUGE difference in voting rights. The governor will decide this by May 21st.

I.P.P.S. Board Member, Stephan Antony, and Pres/Exec. Dir, Robert J. Williams, represented I.P.P.S. Mentoring in The Perdue School of Business Entrepreneurship Competition, at Salisbury University - Awarded $6,000.00

On May 7th & 8th, Mr. Stefan Antony, SU senior and I.P.P.S. Board Member, and Mr. Robert J. Williams, I.P.P.S. President & Executive Director, made a pitch to the judges at the annual SU Entrepreneurship Competition. Mr. Antony and Mr. Williams did so well that I.P.P.S. Mentoring was given a cash award of $6,000.00, so it could continue its efforts to close the revolving door of recidivism that plagues our jails and prisons.

I.P.P.S. Mentoring is beginning its 2nd year of work with inmates at the Wicomico County Detention Center and will begin it's new mentoring program at the Poplar Hill Pre-Release Unit, in Quantico, in July.

When asked, Mr. Williams explained, "The judges were impressed with Stefan's dedication and commitment to our program and were convinced that we are having a positive impact in the lives of our mentees and in our community."

Mr. Antony noted, "Our program is unique in it's ability to mentor inmates, showing them that there are alternatives open to them; that their dreams can be put back on track. It takes a shift in attitude, along with committed mentors, willing to share their experiences and caring for those they mentor."

The $6,000.00 award will allow I.P.P.S. to continue its mission and to expand its program in new and innovative ways.

I'm happy to announce that IPPS Mentoring has been awarded a grant from the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore (CFES). The $5,000 grant will allow us to continue our mentoring efforts with inmates at the Wicomico County Detention Center, as well as start a new program at the Poplar Hill Pre-Release Center.

We are continuing to expand our mentoring services and look forward to future growth, where we will be able to provide transitional housing, counseling, job training and other services that will assure successful reintegration of inmates, back into the community.

IPPS has submitted a new grant application with the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore. This new grant would fund the continuing program at the Wicomico County Detention Center, as well as the new program at the Poplar Hill Pre-Release Center, in Quantico.

We are hopeful that the grant will be awarded and we can continue with plans to implement the next phase of our expansion into other facilities, providing assistance and guidance for additional inmates.

We have been working hard over the winter months to bring together a new mentoring program for the State of Maryland Poplar Hill Pre-Release Center, in Quantico.

Robert Williams, Ron Pagano and Jane Reagan met, last week, with the facility Administrator, Michael King, as well as Facility Captain, Kevin King (no relation) and Facility Chaplain Travers.

After reviewing the draft of the proposed Manual, modifications were made so that it better reflected the needs of the facility. The target date for beginning the program is April 1st.

Thanks to Co. Executive, Rick Pollitt, for being part of our 1-Year Anniversary Milestone at the Wicomico County Detention Center! We appreciate his ongoing support and kind words today, and his willingness to be Chair of the Honorary Board of Directors for IPPS Mentoring Program, Inc.

We have a long way to go to meet the needs of all those who want to receive the benefits of this great program, however, we have had a successful year and look forward to growing the program and expanding our services in the future!

We are celebrating the 1-Year Anniversary of our mentoring efforts at the Wicomico County Detention Center, in Salisbury, MD. There will be a commemoration ceremony today at 2pm, at the detention center. We will be presenting a plaque to the Superintendent, George Kalamourakis, and speakers include Robert J. Williams, President & Exec Director of IPPS, as well as Chair of our Honorary Board, Rick Pollitt, Wicomico County Executive.

We will also hear from a current Mentor and Mentee pair, who have seen success in their work together.

We should all be proud of the accomplishments and successes of the past year, as we look to expanding the program in the future. The more inmates we can reach, the more success we will see in reduced recidivism and overall safety in our communities.

I urge you to think about volunteering as a Mentor. It doesn't matter what kind of work you do; what matters is your desire to help one person change their life and rejuvenate their dreams. One hour a week can have a positive effect for many years to come.

If you can't volunteer your time, we ask that you consider a contribution that will allow us to continue our work. All contributions are Tax-Deductible, since we are certified as a 501 (c)(3) organization.
