Last week, Maryland Soybean Board Directors gathered for their August meeting, beginning the day with a tour of The Mill’s Crop Showcase plots at Clear Meadow Farm. Directors had the opportunity to see a variety of crops and products in the field and learn more about the latest tools and practices available to Maryland farmers.

The Board also visited The Mill’s Black Horse location to learn about its new fertilizer facility and the services it will provide to area producers. Thank you to The Mill Agronomy team for hosting the Board and sharing their expertise!

Following the tours, Directors met to review funding requests and proposals for the upcoming fiscal year. These discussions help ensure Maryland soybean checkoff investments support meaningful research, education, promotion, market development, and other initiatives that benefit the state’s soybean farmers and agricultural community.

Earlier this month, we took Maryland soybeans and Commander Clean Fuels to Ocean City for the MACo Summer Conference! 🌱

We enjoyed connecting with county and state leaders at MACo and providing educational resources on biofuels, bio-based products, and their many applications. The event provided a great platform to highlight the role Maryland agriculture can play in supporting a cleaner future.

Thanks to the Maryland Grain Producers, American Soybean Association, and Clean Fuels Alliance America for joining us and lending their technical expertise to these conversations. We appreciate your partnership and a great few days at MACo!

From building new fuel markets and expanding exports to over 90 countries to strengthening U.S. infrastructure and differentiating soybean varieties to meet evolving global demand, your checkoff investments drive demand for U.S. soybeans.

One of the most significant examples of farmer-driven innovation is creating biodiesel as a new fuel source – soy usage in biofuels has grown from 80 million bushels to 1.2 billion bushels in the last 15 years. And partnerships, such as railroads, maritime shipping companies, and the home heating industry, continue to grow demand even more.

For 35 years, the Soy Checkoff has fundamentally reshaped the soybean market here in Maryland, and around the world.

Do you know what the orange triangle means?

The reflective orange triangle on the back of equipment indicates they are slow-moving vehicles (SMVs). SMVs are vehicles that travel at 25 mph or under, such as farm equipment, horse and buggies, and road maintenance equipment to name a few.

Whenever you're on the road, keep an eye out for the SMV sign and remember to:
🔺Slow Down
🔺Assess Your Surroundings
🔺and Move with Caution

Find more tips for driving around SMVs by visiting findmedriving.com.

We were excited to spot one of Perdue's B100 biodiesel trucks in today's Blessing of the Combines Parade in Snow Hill!

The Maryland Soybean Board is proud to have supported the transition of these trucks to run on 100% biodiesel, helping showcase how soybeans grown by Maryland farmers are fueling a more sustainable future.

Keep an eye out - you just might see one of these B100 trucks on the road near you! Every mile driven highlights the value of soy-based innovation and the impact of the soybean checkoff.
